Arizona Chickens

Hi Everyone!! I hope that you all had a wonderful turkey day. We opted not to do traditional thanksgiving this year. Instead we loaded up in the truck and went to the lake. It was lots of fun. I even hiked up the side of this embankment thing. For me it might as well have been Mount Everest but it was cool. After we came home and watched a few movies. Just me, hubby, and son. I plan to cook for Christmas this year though.

Hey everyone I hail from Mesa. I just became the proud father of 2 Arucuanas 2 blue andulusians and 1 Speckled Sussex. I still have the chicks under thier heat lamp. All is well so far, my 8 year old daughter loves her new peeps. I cant wait for the sixty days to be over so they can enjoy thier coop. I will also worry less about the chicks making it through the early days. Robert L.

Good Evening , I am fairly new to this area and its been some time since I last was fathering chickens in a far away place. I have been reading this forum for a while and I've done a few entries but I'm not much for speaking, (I do enough at work) but I had to say something today, and it's been rather heartening to read all these tales of happy days and sad days, the education has been brilliant.
I am the father of 5 orphs, 5 americonas, and 5 dominques and have been blessed to date without any fatalities. I and my wife are alone now since the kids have all moved on and these little girls along with our three dogs keep us hopping. We do focus our lives as being as green now as we can. I am rather passionate about the way I think we are using mother earth so my wife and I made the decision to do what we can to limit our carbon foot print.
And my person foot print was rather heavy, a couple years ago I to made the decision to remove the extra layers from my body, stop smoking and to some extent stop drinking. Can say I turned 50 this year and don't drink, don't smoke (was a pipe) and dropped 100Lbs. And I feel wonderful, So to those that find it hard and look for support. All I can say is you go baby, its worth it.
We live just outside the ranch in rainbow valley and I am very nervous about the summer, but since I've read here that you all seem to weather the heat along with your girls then may I ask that I have your blessing to write again when my nerves begin to hum in early summer, thats when I'll need support.

Thanks for writing and thanks for reading this.

OMG, I forgot what I wanted to ask, I saw a comment about a show in tucson, is there anything like that ever here in Phoenix or where do we watch for any events like the Tucson show, my wife is spending the weekend with one of the kids, so perhaps next time but I need to know how to watch for the dates so I can plan.

thanks

All you ever wanted to know about chickens is at your finger tips. I live in west valley Boonies. My chickens did fine through the heat. You will get some great tips on what to do for the heat.

Britt, Sorry about your chickens. I was worried about my wee baby's the whole time I was gone. I'm still working on the pen.

Brittany,

Sorry to hear about your loss. I have 5 week old Delaware and Rhode Island Red pullets that I am willing to part with if you are interested. They are almost completely feathered out and I have them outside already. I am in the north vallley.

Welcome Ken. I love this forum too. It educates me on so many things that help me raise chickens....looking forward to your entries....My orp. laid 5 eggs this week, her first week of laying....today i found a new one in a different nest...think someone else is laying an egg

.....cant wait till all four are on board....all my friends want eggs. I am allergic to them straight up but can eat them in a bread mix or such...i know, but what can you do? I love watching them. They have sooo much personality.

Hey everyone who gave me CL links and told me that you have chicks available!! I found some really close to my house and picked them up today. They are about 18 weeks old so they have already established themselves as higher in the pecking order with my 12 week olds. They were showing dominance within 10 minutes, but everyone is getting along well. They aren't what I wanted necessarily, but they are all read and black stars, so they should be laying machines which is what I want.

Thanks again and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

So what did you get and how old....where did you go? My friend is looking for one that is laying....I got mine as babies ..it has been a fun adventure as two have started laying...i think it has been about 6 or 7 mo. this chicken forum has help me often.

Welcome aboard clucking crazy.
