Arizona Chickens

What!? Because of these circumstances then your "BFF" should NOT wimp out! What a shame! Don't give up!

Suze just gave my failing heart a boost, not quite giving up yet...

Never surrender!

That just isn't right. You're way nicer than I am. If I had to live next door to someone who caused me to have to remove one of my passions,

I'm afraid I'd be just a tad vindictive...

I'm not suggesting anything mind you...

Yay, keep it up. Maybe I should send my "dismal mosaic of HOAs" email to your HOA. My husband doesn't like animals, and is pretty reluctant to having a dog, but he is completely happy with the idea of having chickens because they are useful. I think we need a revolution in the HOAs. How else are chickens going to become "generally recognized house or yard pets"?

Tempe certainly recognises them as such. Every single family home in the city is allowed up to five hens. Text says single family; table lists multi-family as being allowed. So that is a fight waiting to happen. In the Ag district where I live there are literally no limits to poultry. That said, HOA CC&Rs can disallow them, and most do, especially the larger or newer ones. Mine, and the neighborhood next to it were founded to be agricultural in nature.

I'm actually thinking about adding one to my order. Today, when I was scrubbing watering pans, my favorite buttercup jumped on my back and sat there. She's always under foot or right there watching what I'm doing. I haven spent any time trying to tame them, they were actually very flighty as little chicks.
I guess I wasn't frequenting the forum much in May because I hadn't gotten my chicks until mid-May. Darn! Just a few months late!

I have to go outside in this heat and butcher a Cornish X now. One of the fatties has a bad foot. They have very bad timing. I was planning to do the remaining three tomorrow morning before it gets hot but I'm worried this one might die before then. Its only 112, this should be fun.

What did you send her, Gallo?

A few years ago my Dad sent his sister a dried out dead toad for Valentine's day. At least you are sending living things?

So, I went out to butcher the lame fatty. Scalding pot is hot and everything ready to go. I took some melon rind for everyone else. The lame one did the fat girl run waddle to get to the melon faster than anybody else and gulped down all the seeds. I guess the cool bath I gave her while she was unable to move this afternoon cured her? Or, maybe she was hypoglycemic?

I gave her a reprieve to enjoy her melon for the evening. I'm setting the alarm to get everyone done in the morning. Chicken Marsala for dinner Sunday night!

Do you have problems with stray cats? My chickens chase the feral ones off and made friends with the friendly cat dumped in the neighborhood.
They know the difference somehow.

One time I went outside to see a very scared feral cat trapped in the garden by the chickens. I had to call the chickens away so it could escape.
