Arizona Chickens

Just south of Metro. We try to never leave the house alone, but sometimes we just have to. I have one son still at home, but he just gets up and leaves when his girl friend calls. I can't rely on him.

We have been in this house for thirty years and we have only had two break ins, but anything in the yards is liable to disappear any time.

Before that, we lived on west Indian School Road.

I have a little house in Overgaard that (knock on wood) has never been robbed. Someone comes and takes my ladder, but they bring it back, so it is no big deal

Laree - Thank you for the info. What does SASB mean? I wonder what is going on with bugs in the feed. I have avoided that so far. I keep mine in blue tubs in the house. That might help.

Patti - Big egg!

Rufus - I have a sister in Overguard. That ladder thing is a good one. Sounds just like small town America. I'll have to tell my sister that one.

I've got 18 blue Ameraucana hatching eggs available. 16 now plus a couple more I'll get tomorrow. Most are BW X W/BW Ameraucanas. There are a couple BW X B/B/S eggs in the mix for some nice blue laying EEs.

Tofuranch is first on the list and they are hers but if she can't get down to pic them up, then they will be available on Saturday after 1PM.

I've been turning them 3X a day and they haven't been washed or put into the fridge.

So nice to meet you, your husband and child today!

I hope you have a successful hatch and that the babies are beautiful. Be certain to keep us updated. Some of them had a little "dirt from the run" on them because I gathered eggs after the storm this past week. Most of the eggs were were gathered in the past three days. I even took some of the older ones out this morning and replaced them with fresh ones laid this morning.

Should be fun to watch!

Good luck... wish I could live up there like you guys.

Wow, there are so many Arizona people! Does anyone know where to get pullets in Tucson? We are *THIS* close to finishing our coop and I think I can finally pick some up this week

I saw a feed store advertise on Craigslist that they have Ameraucana pullets (they are probably just Easter Eggers though, right?) and I think I'll get one from them, but I also want to get a wyandotte, a RIR, and a buff orpington.

I wish more of you were in Tucson, I think I'd be begging Mahonri for a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana!

Good Morning Arizona,

Cold one here today. I had 32F and it still hasn't gotten to 40F yet. I have all the Chickens chores done for awhile. I think I will wait until it warms up a bit.

I did notice that I had 3 eggs in a nest. Chicklett was preparing to get into the nest. I only got 1 egg yesterday and 4 the day before. I have feathers all over the pens however you can't tell if they are molting or not. The new feathers must come in pretty fast. I have not gotten a blue egg for at least 2 months now. Is that normal? Chicklett and Cleo are EE, I was told when I got them. Chicklett lays a oblong light tan egg. I thought for a long time that she was giving me a pink colored egg. I saw her lay the tan egg. One of my RIR girls gives me the pink. Is this strange or not? Cleo was laying the Blue Egg.

I am really confused now.
