Well I came down from Chino Valley...I am North of Prescott by 20 miles, picked up eggs and went to Gilbert and then brought the eggs all the way up here with NOTHING broken. I almost killed my daughter that was in the back seat by the eggs, she is 13 and not very careful at all, then I told her how much they cost and guess what money talks and she was much better the rest of the ride. If we can do you can too.

Good morning all! I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Not much to report here. The DH finished my new brooder and **somehow** only managed to get me chicken statues for Christmas.

One is this horrible 3-foot ceramic rooster, who is standing "inappropriately" amongst a tuft of grass. I will have to post a picture...but it looks like the grass is "spashing" him...like a bidet...

Let's put this out there now: I DO NOT COLLECT CHICKEN "STUFF". I only collect chickens who make me breakfast.

SERIOUSLY...I have a feeling this is going to get out of hand. At my work Christmas meeting, my CFO told the ENTIRE Phoenix office "all (laree) does is talk about chickens."

NOT TRUE! I have never ever once discussed chickens with him. He travels all the time, and only found out the week before Christmas I have chickens. He mentioned I got my MBA in the last year, but neglected to mention I sat for the CPA, had a baby, remodeled the house (and did most of the work ourselves), implemented software company-wide, saved the company tons in taxes, cleaned up $400K in airlines tickets....

No. All I do is talk about chickens.

Now, thanks to his little declaration, I am the "Crazy Chicken Lady". Sure--- he only said it to the Phoenix people, but other offices were there via video conference, and someone from NC (not at the meeting) emailed asking for pictures of my coop! 28 offices nationwide, 700+ people, all of which I eventually cross paths with, and I am the Crazy Chicken Lady. Awesome.

She at 13 is very good at not saying anything so she doesnt have to do chores or anything. I think that she would like to be invisible, normal teenager

Can we all wear chicken costumes, to hide our secret identities?

Laree, I think this "chicken gift" thing is a universal phenomena! Happened to me, too, and my dog got a chicken stuffed toy! That, I think, is what happens when you don't really need anything, but "gift giving time" rolls around. I tried to mitigate the situation this year by declaring to friends and family that I would be doing, only 1 small gift to each of them, and spending my money by making a donation to St. Mary's Food Bank instead. . . I encouraged them to do the same. . . .except for my sister, who is a compulsive gift buyer, that is pretty much what happend, and it sure made this Christmas one of the most pleasant ones for me. Your job sounds like it is really a challenge. . . and like you are fully capable of meeting that challenge. I am months away from retirement, (I hope), and looking forward to having more time with the chooks. . . . . only another "crazy chicken lady" could understand. . .

I got a chicken calendar this year. At least it can be used and is only for one year! LOL

Laree - It sounds like you do a great job and he knows it. Otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned anything about you at all. He is also intrigued by the chickens. On the plus side, if you are known not only as the efficient MBA/CPA, but also as the CCL, that helps you be more memorable and stand out company wide. People will know who you are and publicity is publicity. There is no such thing as bad publicity. So, when they talk about other MBA employees that are doing lots of good things for the company, they will all blur together. But when your name comes up, they will remember that the CCL is is the one who did x, y, z. No danger of someone else getting credit by accident. It pays to have a signature piece that gets you remembered. Besides, it also gives you a sense of mystery. Also, all those folks who asked for pictures now feel a bond to you, and that is good as well and will even more so when you send them one. Positive connections pay off. I think my CEO was dumbfounded when I told him I had back yard chickens. They don't get it, but are intrigued. (He wanted to know what color they were.) Of course, on occasion there is a surprise, like the VP I told that said she had been thinking about chickens and wanted to hear all about it. One more connection. Remember, those that advance in corporate america spend 30% of their time building connections. They advance much farther than the ones that do the work (and get more done) but don't invest time in building connections.

By the way, I am impressed with your list of accomplishments. I can tell you'd be a great asset to any organization. I also hope to do a better job of following your example and acknowledging to myself what my contributions are. That is hard for me.

Thank you for sharing....and let me know if you go to any MBA women networking events. I miss that connection I left in Utah and haven't found it here.
