Here is more info on sex links:

Thank you!
I don't recall seeing white chicks. They had like 5 diff. breeds in one brooder.

It may have been RIL? and something...??
I could call them if it's important to know the breeds. I told him to point out the sex links and it had to be a hen, and she's the color he pointed out. lol...

It looks like a sex-link with the white wing feathers. Not a RIR or production red. They probably had just pullets and didn't have any white cockerels. That's the beauty of sex-links, you can tell the pullets right away...almost all of the time.

So Western Ranchman had been waiting on their first batch of chickies for the season.

Waiting and waiting and waiting.

The chicks got lost in the mail for 2 days! Poor chickies. I spent some time helping with triage, but I dunno if the croakers were going to perk back up.

...of the non-obvious croakers: I bought 10. I need to replace the 4 Orloff roos I had special ordered (to be girls!!!) Pastrymama took 2 of the original 6 orloffs, so we have 6 roos between us. IT SUCKS. I was soooooo stoked for Orloffs. *sniff*

OH WELL. I bought a bunch of EEs, a light brahma, and a black sex that accidentally hopped in the box.

No pictures until I know there are no croakers.

Here is the progress on the feeder.

It's going to hang so I didn't need a flat bottom. I also...

- put a double angle on the back/bottom to get the feed closer to the front. That made the cross-section (side view) rather thin so I put an angle between the upper front and the lip-insert (That's a Gallo term - think hole through which chickies feed) to beef it up a tad.

- increased the total height from 16" to 24" and the width from 16" to 20" - hoping to be able to dump a full 50lb bag into it at once.

- angled the top so the chickies can't roost on it (stole that idea from one of you's guys in another post about waterers)

I know Gallo's weight calculations just went out the window with the change in materials and lip insert / cover size. I used his geometry for the hole locations and will use it for the linkages because I know they work. I figure on adding weight to the cover or treadle to make it work properly.

I am hopefully going to weld it together this weekend. Hope ya like it!

Other than having to lean over to figure it out,

it looks great!
I was thinking it looked kinda big, but then saw the 50lbs and it made sense.. For a minute I thought it might just be me and my headache today.

I know it's kind of a weird perspective, but I rotated the pict before I put it up here and it was worse. It's only taped together so I could mock it up, so I can't orient it properly for ya.

Hope your headache feels better soonest.
