I am looking for a Golden Laced Wyandott.....My three babies are doing well but I have four more I still want to get.

Aden's said they are getting in Polish, Silkies, and speckled Sussex on Feb 12. I can add the GLW to that order. I was hoping to find chicks sooner before mine get to old...I guesss that is just not going to happen. If mine are a month old before I add the other babies will there be a problem with pecking order at this age?

My hubby made me the same feed bucket. I need to find a cheap way to make a waterer. I do not have a way to do an auto waterer but I do not want to be fooling around with water constantly during the summer. Suggestions?

I have Chrystalgail's nipple waterer. I use a 3 gal bucket and don't have to fill it for 3 weeks! Of course in the summer it'll be more often. It also just doesn't get dirty. You can see a picture of it on my webpage and Chrystalgail describes how to make it on hers. I did change hers a little. I went ahead and glued the pvc to the bucket and added a pvc union so the bucket can be removed and cleaned easier. It ended up costing about $10. $6 for 3 nipples(after shipping), about $2 in pvc parts, $3 for the union and the bucket was free at Bashas'.

Water is definitely the big issue in Phoenix. I have two sheep in my backyard and they guzzle enormous amounts in the summer. I am new to chickens; got my flock started in November. I am using Aquamiser nipple waterers. I installed one in a gallon bottled water jug for the coop and two in a 5 gallon chlorine tablet bucket, which hangs from a plant bracket mounted on a wooden stake in the yard. I plan on getting more nipples and putting out another bucket waterer. They do not need to be taught to use these. They figure it out within minutes. This summer I will have to monitor their water consumption closely for a while since it will be my first summer with chickens. The website is http://www.avianaquamiser.com/diywaterers/. It was $30 for a DIY kit with 3 nipples, but I wish I had ordered more because I am ending up with more chickens than I thought I would (11 ultimately), and more access to water is never a bad thing around here. Really easy to install in your choice of container. I might install a few mister heads on an extension of an existing drip system so they have somewhere to chill.

Good morning everyone!

The kids had a denstist appointment this morning, and after I dropped the boys back at school I stopped by the house. I went out back to make sure everyone was high and dry, and GOLLY, the chooks looked confused.

"Whaaat is going on? Bawk bawk! Waaaater from the bawk grroooowl sky?!"

They looked bored, so I suggested they spend the day practicing their laying abilities.

I don't know who it was that turned me on to the auto waterer I found at Western Ranchman... Best thing I've ever bought.

18 eggs today.

BTW, Looks like i have FIVE pure bred Wheaten Ameraucana chicks that are roos. You could used these roos to get easter or olive eggers. I'll be keeping the Blue Wheatens and Splash Wheaten roos and then selling all but the best of each.

I'm starting them out at $5 a bird this week and will increase the price a dollar every two weeks. For Anyone interested.

You can PM me.

I've got a 6:30AM patient so I've got to hit the sac.

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend!

So all of my chicks are starting to reveal to me their true gender and I'm totally bummed out!! I am still not certain about my RIRs - all those combs are still pretty small so either they are late bloomers, or they are all girls (crossing my fingers for the latter!)

BOTH my SLW and GLW are roos which is a HUGE bummer because those are the ones I waited for so long to hatch.

My Delaware's comb almost tripled in size in the last week too.

The EE's I'm not sure about, but they're some of the biggest so I'm hoping that's genetics rather than gender.

I have the space for a dozen birds but will likely only end up with 4 - if anyone comes to the conclusion that you need to thin your flock, maybe you will keep me in mind??

At what age can you tell if they are Roos or not?

Well, to be CERTAIN it's about 6-8. But GIANT, bright red combs at 4 1/2 weeks is a pretty good indicator too
