janetora, I'd be a bit more worried about lack of ventilation than cold if you blocked both upper vents and the bottom. While we certainly don't have as many issues as folks farther north, the combination of increased humidity and cold can be problematic. Perhaps you could keep one vent open on the side that is typically down wind?
