Arizona Chickens

Well wouldn't ya just know it.... WORMS! Been several years since we have had to deal with any worms (Tapeworms this time) But it is part of keeping animals so now we have to do the dogs and chickens tomorrow as well as the neighbors critters just to make sure... We us Valbazen FYI.

Hey if you haven't seen this it is a good read... http://healthybirds.umd.edu/Disease/Deworming Birds.pdf

Never heard of using fabric softener on birds. My suggestion is to wash a bird that you are NOT planning to take and see how it works. I had to re-wash half a dozen birds for Farmington as I used too much glycerin in the rinse. Can we say FLAT crests, not pouffy ones

Bluing won;t affect the black, but you need to be really careful to not dye your birds blue/purple

Done that a time or two, and I rarely use bluing any more (it helps that I have very few whites

My chickens have them too.
I thought dogs couldn't get the tapeworms chickens get.

I really hate to bring this up, but I have a question about mealworms.
I've read that chickens can get tapeworms from darkling beetles. Mealworms are darkling beetles, right?
My chickens have never had tapeworms before and I just started giving them mealworms a few months ago. Is there a possible connection?

I had tapeworm segments in an egg the other day.

I have some Valbazen on order.

If that's true, I want to know before I feed mealworms. I had a dog with tapeworms once and he pooped all over my car!

I periodically worm with valbazen too. Haven't done it since summer, seems like it might be a good time to do it. I notice that I end up with problems when the cricket population comes out in the cooler months.

ok another question..

If I wanted to grow a good seed mixture to feed to my chickens & other animals, what combination should I use for AZ.
I was thinking about oats, barley, timothy grass, alfalfa? ( isn't it poisonous at one stage of growth), and clover (but I don't know which clover).

What do you guys think?
