Arizona Chickens

Quote:
I thought about getting chicks but since I was working full time decided to just get ready-to lay-pullets from people advertising online on CL. I've seen chicks at the Mesa Feed Barn, Pet Club (County Club and 1st St in Mesa). These two places seem to get regular shipments of chicks, also turkeys and ducks sometimes.

I'm thinking some of the folks here who incubate may have chicks from time to time if you can wait and don't have your own schedule. I think they would be better quality than other places and more support if you need it. And you don't need to buy 25 minimum to have them shipped like at the hatcheries.

Greetings! I live in central AZ and am relatively new to chicken husbandry. A few questions to some fellow Arizonians:

1. Would it be okay to have 30 or so laying hens in AZ City? We live in a residential area but there are no ordinances (that we are aware of) for chickens.

2. We are going on a 3 day trip very soon & any suggestions on how to situate them before we leave? We have a net covering the top of their run (20'x8') and a coop inside the run. Currently, we have a total of 11 chickens, 10 girls and 1 very mean rooster.

Thank you!

When I'm restless from stress I clean or do yard work ... Not that it is what I want to do, but moving around helps! Chocolate always helps too

I kind of thought that all along. Ivan was always bold right from the hatching. I am going to try and keep him. We don't have a rooster with the laying hens. Problem is I owned his Grandad and know his father. Both turned out really vicious roosters. Hope my baby doesn't do the same.

1. No idea but that's a bunch-o-chickies - do you live in a HOA?

2. I have a home made treadle feeder and a Homer bucket with a swamp cooler float & 4 water nipples in the bottom. I wouldn't worry about leaving for quite a while with one of my kids stopping by to make sure all was working properly.

Welcome Birdman!!!

No HOA, it's a small unincorporated city between Eloy & Casa Grande.

Appreciate the reply.

Thank you!

Also, do you have photos of the feeder you are referring to?

Thanks!
