Arizona Chickens

This is for The other Mary and any other interested parties....
Picks of my New Years Day Hatch 2012 chicks.

First up the only two surviving Swedish Flower Hen chicks. I'm guessing female on the left, male on the right.

Next up, group shot at the feeder. Lots of blacks, whites and chipmunks.

...

This brownish-black Icelandic is a tad weird, it hardly has any feathers and the ones that it does have are WEIRD!

Next, an Icelandic with white on it's wings... I'm guessing ROO!

,

Next, the SFH.. ?Male?... notice the orange and white feathers coming in?

Next the only pure bred wheaten Ameraucana from my coop prior to roo loss.. I'm guessing pullet.

One of 7 chipmunk Icelandics

The blue and white one on the left is named "29"... as it was the last chick out...saved by my little girl because I was about to toss the egg and she said she heard a peep in the egg. I pipped it and it was out not long after that. It's mama is a big FBCM and the daddy was Fred, the Splash Wheaten roo. Should be a pretty Olive Egger but it's looking rooish to me.

And the Lavender Ameraucana from bargain's eggs. All but two of the eggs she sent went into Meg's bator and they all got fried. The two I kept hatched, one a purebred Lavender and the other a black EE. I'm guessing the Lavender is a roo. Should a get him decrowed and start a Lavender Wheaten project?

There you go. Off to candle the 36 eggs in my bator for the Ground Hog's Day Hatch.

Well that was easier then I thought it would be.

Cotton hatched another egg last night and left the new chick to get chilled when she took the others off to eat and mingle with the other chickens. I found the chick [I thought] dead but on the way to the garbage pail I felt a flicker of life so I took the chick in and cupped it in my hands and kept blowing warm breath air on it. The chick slowly came back. I help her for 3 hours and she was peeping away! I have the brooding box warmed up and she is doing all right so far. I even brought the other two eggs in just in case I was lucky enough to have them hatch. They are ready to hatch but not sure if they got to chilled or not. Those eggs will be doomed either way so giving them a chance. I have them under the lamp also. OHHH if I only had a bator! . I will name it either Shamrock [if roo] or Clover [as in 4 leaf clover, if hen] One lucky chick! I hope she doesn't get nuemonia! Hey I hear a lusty chipping coming from my room! Yea!

I will send pictures soon as I can figure out how to load AGAIN!!! I hate this new systum!
I have qouted my own post for I have something to add.
Chick was doing fine. Eating and pooping and drinking. He was strong and I thought ready to go back to mother hen Cotton. Well last night, at dark, I put him to bed under her wings. This morning when I woke up I knowtest it was a dark morning, DANG. I rushed out to check on the chicks and Cottons other three was under her wings as she stroled aroung the chicken yard but poor Shamrock was lieing unconcious by the food dish. Ohhh, I cried! I got him in my hands and started to blow on him. When I started to feel some life I got him under the heat and my golly he came back again! I think I may have to name him Nazerous!
This most be a roo. What other bird could come back from the almost dead twice! I am his mother for sure. I may have a house chicken! He sure hates to be left alone. He chirps and chirps for me. He loves playing with my ears and lips and fingers.
So this little fuzzybutts story has not ended yet.

Wow awsome chicks Mahonri

My best friend saw the Marans and the awsome eggs they lay. She wants a hen or two real bad. Who raises them in my neck of the woods? Wittmann or close by.

Boston Bryce has fertile FBCMarans... he should be coming to the valley the beginning of next week, you should PM him to see what he has available.

Candling done.

8 of the 19 from WMR were duds... dang USPS. 4 from my coop started and then quit.

Started with 36 eggs (I thought I had 34... but I must have thrown a couple more in from the coop!)

It's now down to 24. of the 24, 3 FBCM olive eggers where Fred was the dad. 1 olive egger from my coop where Fred is the dad (chick will be 3/4 Ameraucana, 1/4 FBCM), 11 purebred wheaten Ams from WMR, and 9 purebred W/BW/SW Ameraucanas from my coop.

I'm guessing I'll have 20 at lockdown and I'll hatch 16 chicks.

Fuzzy I have some french wheaten Marans I hatched from Bargain's eggs. 8 weeks old, I want to keep the lighter females. But she is welcome to a couple of the more buff colored pullets. The eggs they hatched from were pretty dark. I don't know the marans scale to give you the exact darkness, but will edit with a link to the auction I got them from. Send me a pm if babies work for her.

Here is the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/583941/12-wheaten-marans-hatching-eggs-great-lineage#post_7605949

I realize she would probably prefer POL pullets. But the babies are here if she is interested.
