Arizona Chickens

For the person who was looking for vine suggestions- I got my husband a passion fruit vine for Christmas, and it is growing really fast. Its grown at least three feet since we planted it, and we're going to put up some new trellis tomorrow. The tag said they get up to thirty feet, which I thought might be optimistic, but I now have no trouble thinking it'll get that big. :) The blossoms and fruit are also very pretty, although if you want fruit you will probably need to hand pollinate.

Will anyone from Tucson be at the poultry show?? I would really, really like to get the seed box back to Galo. Spring is almost here!!

ALL the chick pix are soooo adorable!! I am getting the fever and the Easter Hatch-a-long is so far away.

There are now about 800 birds entered some of almost every breed and variety. Lots of sale birds!! You don't want to miss it.

Bootsie
my inlaws live in oro valley. They are going to be here march 11th for my son's bday if you and I want to try to meet before then. I am in north phoenix.

I'm going to have to go to the show simply to see if any silkie pullets are for sale. I've decided I've got to own at least ONE silkie and at least one Polish.

Thanks for all the tips on the vines. I will make a trip to the nursery this week. I believe Passion Fruit Vines are the ones that attract caterpillars too. I am looking for a fast growing vines that can help cover my 6 x 14 chain link run. I figured it would help keep it shaded and cooler in the warmer months.

Mickey, I promised you pictures of the coop and run. I will take some tomorrow and post them. I will also post pics of the feeder and nipple waterer that I made out of 4" sewer and drain pvc pipe.

I ordered 1200 mealworms to start my mealworm farm too!!! This chicken thing sure has gotten addicting. Anyone use a substrate other than wheat bran for their mealworms? I was thinking oats or cereal or just chicken feed would work? correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks, I might have to take you up on that if I can't find any locally. I'm looking for about 5-8 pounds to start. I think that will give me enough to put in a plastic shoebox size container about 3" deep? I would eventually like to uprade to a 3-drawer system. The worms should arrive mid-week. Any tips for me?
