Arizona Chickens

I am sorry and truely understand your loss Becky. Denise and I had to send her old Great Dane to the rainbow bridge last week.

Why is it that on my birthday I get about 40 posts to my wall and when my dog, my buddy, my shadow dies I get two?
She died yesterday morning quickly and unexpectedly. Apparently she had tumor on a vital organ that ruptured and she bled to death internally in a matter of minutes. We had her at emergency within 10 minutes of her collapse but there was nothing they could do.
Happy and healthy one minute, gone the next.

Anyone use a substrate other than wheat bran for their mealworms? I was thinking oats or cereal or just chicken feed would work? correct me if I'm wrong

I use chicken feed (Purina Flock Raiser), and they seem to be doing just as well as when I used bran. Plus, the chickens eat the leftovers. I save the powdery stuff the chickens leave in the feeder, and grind some crumbles so it's about half crumble, half mash.

A big thanks to SherrieT! Thanks to her, my broody Delaware, Puddin', is now settled on a dozen eggs. They're from quite a mix, so I'm excited to see what hatches. SherrieT, you're awesome!

becky- I am so sorry for your lost. I lost my soul mate dog that got me through a nasty divorce and could pick out the bad boyfriends after. It has been 3 year and I still miss him every day!!

It's been a while since we've posted about the AZ BYC Seed Box, but I thought it might bear repeating since we have so many new members. The idea of the seed box is to promote gardening and interactions amongst our AZ members (and our adopted NM members). I started the seed box from all of the extra duplicate seeds I had and packages that were near or relatively recently expired. That amounted to nearly a couple hundred packages of seeds. Constance added to it from her collection and it has travelled and grown from there (I have no idea how many there are inside now). You can take whatever you need from the seed box and add to it if you have something--or not. I'm especially interested in things that you've grown and that has done well in our arid climate. The only requirement in participating in the seed box is that you have to help get it to the next member. AZBootsie has it right now and if anyone else is interested speak up before it heads back down here to Tucson.
