Arizona Chickens

If I am not on here every day, I have the same problem

I can barely keep up with this thread anymore.

Thanks Gallo! He is recovering very well (after 2 major surgeries!). The kidney stone was so old that it kept scraping around his kidney, causing his kidney entrance to develop scars so thick, it nearly closed up his kidney from his urethra! It also caused a major kidney infection (it was actually the pain from the infection that made him go to the Dr.s finally) and a nasty bladder and urinary tract infection. Poor guy! So, after two surgeries (first to cut through the scar tissue and keep it open with a stent, then clearing up the infection. The second surgery to break up the stone and replace to stent with a new one to keep the scar tissue cut open so it healed with an opening and not close shut completely) he is finally recovered!! YAY!!!

Happy to hear that all is well now.

I got my first egg from Paparikash yesterday. It was a pretty light brown egg. Very tall but not two fat. She's only 7 months old. My six year old ate it for breakfast along with the green egg from Cacciatore.

Last night I swooped the kids off in a hurry to meet up with a friend for dinner and didn't put the chickens away for bed time. I was pleased to find them all snuggled together in the coop and on the roosts. All 8 of the chicks were on the roost in order of hatch date. The two layers were on the higher roost about a foot apart.

Paparikash, my new bird, gets along very well with ALL of the flock. She spends time with the three different clicks throughout the day. The 6 week olds, 9 week olds, and Cacciatore (soon to have her name changed if her attitude doesn't, somewhere along the lines of a female dog, witchatory suits her better).

Mama Hen Chris, Awesome Coop
AZKat, I am going to have to check this out. I just went to Superstition Ranch market and spent $55 on produce for me and the chickens.
Puffycheeks, How often do they lay?
Novaleigh, I am glad to hear your DH is recovering well. You've got that chicken bug. I am glad I live in the city limits and am limited to 10 chickens or I'd go crazy with getting fuzzy butts.

On lock down! I candled before putting them back and, for the first time, saw internal pipping. How cool to see that little beak in the air sac.
Got up this morning and that little sucker had pipped! Early on the 19th day.

I got a new 200 lumen flashlight and it is really helping me see more. I have a darker langshan egg (looks like a pullet egg) and I was able to see that the darn sac is on the small end but it is still alive. I'll be watching this one close.

So here's what went into lockdown:
8 Chinese Langshans - I think 1 is a late quitter
2 LF partridge wyndotte - I thought 1 was a quitter but then it moved. Maybe a late starter???? Can they do that?
9 Swedish Flower Hens -think 1 is a quitter
9 EE'ers - It's one of these that pipped

I've taken Wednesday off so hopefully some will actually hatch on time.

Everybody have a GREAT Monday!!!

So...what exactly does DH stand for anyway? I tried looking it up on the forums here, but, they were less then helpful. The meanings ranged from "doodie head" to "darling husband". If no one really knows, why say DH?
