I candled the eggs under my broodys and I'm not sure we're going to have chicks! I didn't see any veins in any of the eggs. There was a large dark spot in one, but I didn't notice anything in the others.I've looked up pictures and I should be seeing veins, but nada. I've never candled before, so maybe I'm just missing it? One broody has been sitting since the 8th but had eaten two eggs...so when it was all said and done, she's been on the same three eggs since the 13th. The other broody has been sitting since the 16th. Any suggestions?![]()

Give at least a full week of development before candling. It's really easy to miss during the early days.
Well, I think my hatch is complete, but i'll let the remainder go a bit longer since some started pretty late.
I ended up with
9 EE
5 FBCM
6 Wellie
2 died while unzipping during my slumber(shoot). I started with 36 eggs and considering that I forgot to candle before lockdown, this is all a surprise. I got an email from a friend late last night and she wants 16 chicks! Holy smokes! The fireman is very happy.
Mikey, when your situation is under control, I will hatch you a new batch of wellies.
you are the best!!!!!
