Arizona Chickens

I was too late. I don't know what was wrong with the little brown silkie for sure, but she passed away. Ugh. Thank you for everyones help and suggestions on what might have been wrong. Learning curve on raising chickens.

I'm so sorry.

Look carefully for mites, they still might be around to infect others. Also be sure to look right after dark where ever the deceased chick was sleeping. Hopefully whatever killed her doesn't take any others.

Now I have a duckling who is wheezing. Ugh!!! I am removing all of the newest batch of chicks and ducklings from the in-coop brooder and out to a seperate section of the yard in their own brooder out there. I am not sure what is going on, but whatever it is, it seems to be contagious. I have already lost one duckling, and now the silkie. Ugh!

P.S. I lost the duckling first a couple of days ago. Lost the silkie today. I didn't think the duckling might be a carrier, because she was so tiny, I thought she was just a weak duckling who had a weak immune system or something. /sigh

I learned so much about weeds and what chickens like to eat with this forum! My chickens thank you all also! Please tell me is this broad leaf weed that is every where, is the one that produces those awful one thorned seeds that get into the dogs feet and our shoes? When we moved hear last Aug we battled those nasty things! Those poor dogs and now it seems we just got ahead of them and no more in feet. We do have these weeds tho and I never thought it would be these weeds that had those thorny seeds. But now some of the weeds in the corner of the yard looks like they may be developing the seeds!
My husband is out now trying to get them all down just in case!

HELP!!!! I have had chickens for many many years and have Never had lice or mites. Any way today we had a sick hen with a large tumor on her face and we were doctoring her and I saw lice on her head. I almost died.
