Hi all,

I am a newbie to raising chickens, looking forward to eggs. I live in Gilbert AZ. I have only 2 chicks
so far. They are 4 weeks old. We are just building a coop. I am looking forward to learning how to do everything!

Kris

Greetings! You really do need at least a couple more chicks. Of course we're all enablers around here. Good luck building your coop, think shade and ventilation and you'll be on your way.

Was a busy weekend with the chickens. First off I changed all the hay in the coop and run, hosed down the coop and run, built a feeder for the Oyster Shell since 2 of the girls started laying this week ( I now have gotten 6 eggs, (1 looks pretty scary though)), hung and filled the Oyster Shell feeder, Rehung the shade tarp and installed a mister system around the run and coop. I hope that will help keep the girls a bit cooler this summer.

Welcome ParentWarrior, you will learn lots here. The folks here are very nice and extremely knowledgeable.

Well, only two for now. I wanted to hand tame them so I thought I had better do it with only two at a time, it would be easier. Yes, I want them as pets probably more than I care about the eggs...LOL I call them pets with benefits...eggs! As soon as my husband finishes my coop I will get 2 more maybe. I don't think I can get away with more and stay un-noticed. :)

How can we keep the coop cool in our heat?. I would think they would roast in there while trying to lay their eggs. I plan to use windows that open with screens for summer ventilation. I hope that is enough. Does everyone have enclosed coops? I would love to see pictures of others coops in the area. I am trying to figure out what to do with all the quail eggs I get.I am not eating those eggs. Anyone else have a quail?
