Arizona Chickens

Well, I had one more make it out into the cruel world so I have 3 to go. I know one of those won't make it because he piped out the side of the egg last night and this morning, nothing. I checked the egg, nothing. So he really is nothing more than "balut" at this point. My other eggs don't have pips at all.

I was unable to candle these eggs, so I don't know if anything is going on inside anyway. I will wait for the remaining 2 till Monday morning, then it is Bill Nye the science guy with the kids.

Yes, welcome...

And if the neighbors chicken tells you to do something, DON'T DO IT!

...dang, you are on a roll, that made me laugh....

So glad somebody got it. When I posted, that, I figured nobody would know what I was talking about.

We went to the show too....Kids had fun, little one ran around while Mom tried to keep his fingers away from the monster-sized roosters... I enjoyed it, although they had no peafowl nor pheasants... One Guinea that I saw, and some really cool Turkeys.

I might not be able to go to CGCC this semester but I am trying to squeeze myself in to at least one class!
It's disappointing how I wasn't able to go earlier, I feel old and freakin retarded.

I get the gist of what AGEC is about but what is she focusing on?

Home schooling seems very foreign to me, never imagine my parents able to assist me in my education other than driving me somewhere or helping pay for classes.

The AGEC is a general curriculum degree. Basically if you complete your AGEC with an acceptable GPA, you are automatically admitted into any of the 3 state Universities.
She is getting the AGEC-S which focuses on Science.

So MaryAnn, looks like you had a great hatch... only three haven't hatched? WOW... you did a great job with that bator!

Those chicks look gorgeous!

Carol has some chicks that came from the splash hen... they look like easter eggers but I'm sure they'll lay nice blue eggs!

Did a MAJOR Cleaning of the coop today. I even mopped the walls, sprayed them, dusted them, cleaned out all of the nest boxes, sprayed and dusted them too.. put up a rag with Sevin over the pop door so that the hens would dust themselves coming in and out.

When I got home tonight I was too tired to go out and dust all of the girls again so son and I will do that on Monday evening.

Was supposed to do 4 miles this morning, ended up doing 6.2. Took me an hour and 19 minutes. I walked most of the way... guess I averaged about 12 minutes per mile. Have a little sun burn going and it was so cloudy and cold!

Rain is coming down pretty good here now.. how about the rest of you?

Becky,

I was thinking of going science too.

Mahonri,
No rain here! I just put a coat on the coop today too. @_@

Sounds like a lot of work. I keep reading about Sevin? Is that the same as DE?

I was SUPPOSED to take all four dogs running. Yeah...not happening. My booty will just keep growing I guess.

OK- EYe really hurts, sorry for no editing. Went to the show today. CLuckin was nice enough to shuttle my 4 year old and I around for the day. I think he scared her off having kids.

The rain is coming down CRAZY right now. THe DH was having a poker game tonight, for his bday. The baby was in be with me, but kept waking up to the sound of trucks. In my ambien induced haze, I thought the DH and all his tipsy redneck friends were out in thhe front yard revving their trucks at each other. Finnaly I get up to yell at them for being idiots, and when I pulled the blinds back there is a wicked storm in progress. 3 or 4 LARGE branches had come down on the porch outside my window.

So I run around to the back, which is completely flooded and the dogs are outside all sorry looking. After letting them in, I go to the garage, where the poker game has clearly wrapped up, but the music is still on loud. My DH, BIL, DH's BFF, and the neighbor are just chit chatting--completely oblivious to the stom: which is slowly flooding the garage. I hit the garage button, and the garage becomes a wind tunnel. Very funny reactions from the guys.

So I sent them out to pull down the branches, batten down the coop, and bring the gynourmous brooder inside. I lost my eye patch at one point. THere is just somehting terribly sweet and funny about a bunch of drunken rednecks chanting, "We saved the baby chickies! WE ROCK" and then chest bumping each other.

Yes, guys, you do.

LareePQG sounds like you had a rough night. But at least the chicks are ok!

I am hoping the rain will hold off until after my DS and I clean out the chicken pens this morning. I have a busy day today, so I gotta get started.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Angie

Im sooo wishing that it would quit raining (I do know that we need it though). I just have so much to do in the backyard, to get our new coop built.

Anyway, I soooo cant wait till the eggs hatch that are under my broody.

My hens that I collected eggs from are...
Black Australorp, Buff Orp, Bantam cochin, and an egg from a friend

Just soooo curious. I already candled a couple of days after a set them under her. (I know it was early, but I saw viening on most of them)

Im wondering if any will be frizzle and what they will look like. I still have until 3-19 if I remember right. This waiting is going to kill me.

Anyway, just wanted to share with all my BYC Arizona friends
