Sounds like you had a good run/walk! Odd weather yesterday. Cold all morning, really warm in the afternoon and then tons of rain!! It poured here!! And big thunder, too!

Are you talking about the little pullets I bought from you? They are gorgeous!! Their coloring is so unique. You think ADCs chicks will look like them? ADC, do you want to see a pic of them? I can try to get one today.

thanks for posting that! No shame! We all learn from doing and making mistakes. My bator is cooler on one side than the other. We have compensated for that as much as we can, but I expect, now that you tell your story, that we will have hatching chicks for a couple days at least.

Since I hadn't seen or heard anything from my non-pipped egg and the pipped-at-the-wrong-end egg, I went ahead and candled them - no movement, no peeping, nothing. I put them back in for a few more hours and then candled again. Still nothing. I went ahead and opened them up - the chick that pipped at the wrong end had died - looks like the pip didn't even go all the way through the membrane (probably drowned?). This was one of the eggs from the dark blue pullet.

The chick in the other shell had died before it ever even tried to pip - its head was still stuck under its wing. This egg was more porous than the others and looked like it had a huge/strange aircell (see pics)?

This is one angle - since the entire egg didn't show up in the pics, I tried to outline an approximate shape:

Another angle - you can see the chick at the side of the aircell (dark area inside the white outline:

First attempt at pics with a flash - no good - the black outline is my attempt and showing you size/shape from that angle:

Does that look normal to you? It's a shame - the chick itself looked large to me (it was a wheaton).

At the end of day 22 (or the beginning of day 23 - 2 a.m.), I did end up helping the last chick out of the 3rd egg - I was afraid it was going to die too, if I didn't. It had pipped, but wasn't progressing. So far, it looks like the chick is doing well - it spent several hours in the bator before I moved it in with the others. It's still a little slower and sleepier, but that's to be expected since it's a day or two behind the others. If this one makes it, then we have 16 chicks and lost 2.

Budkingston - Congratulations on your 15 chicks (maybe you'll even have a couple more?)

Mahonri - you're a fast walker! My neighbors and I walk 3 1/2 miles in and it takes us an hour, sometimes a little more (and I thought we were fast).

Carol -- I would love to see a picture of the chicks! This is one of the spotted chicks (splash hen with blue wheaton roo) - I know it's an EE, but have never seen an EE with spots before.

Laree - That would have been a funny sight to see!

MaryAnn,

Can't wait to see what your babies look like when they are 6-8 weeks.

I hope they are pullets!!

Gretchen got her eggs this morning. I gave her some real designer EE eggs in the group. BWA X BO, BWA X Ancona, BWA X Salmon Faverolle, BWA X BBL Polish, etc...

I made it home...my eggs from Mahonri and Loree they are waiting to go into the incubator....I collected eggs and got a TON...egg production kicked up a lot even with all the rain

Mahonri gave me one of his little new years day roo's...He is all dry and happy in with his age mates...He has some splash orps, buff orp,Speckled Sussex and a silkie to play with...

It was great seeing you too...anyone coming up near Prescott and want to stop by just message me. I also have LOTS of kinds of eggs if anyone is looking

Welcome Monhonri's son!

Tofu - Nice to hear happy tidings.

For all you hatchers....glad to see pic's and news.

I also hear great things from those who do home schooling. Though it sounded a bit odd to me at first as well.

Yes, I moved to the desert, what is with the rain! McKellips has been closed for weeks at the 202 due to run off. How bizzare. No that I need to cross it, but it amazes me to see all that water!

Someone (lost the name) talked about getting weeds for the chicks. Great tip! I have thought I should find some for my girls. Thank you for the great example!

Laree - your stories are always so funny. I hope your eye is getting better.

Glad to get good reports on the CG show. Nice to hear about the good times.

So, yeah, I've been gone for awhile.
My husband has been in ICU since the 18th. He'd been sick off and on since November, and it turned out that the sinus infections were covering up diabetes and incipient pneumonia. He's still weak, but it looks like he's going to recover, although he's got a long, long road a head of him.
