Arizona Chickens

I just processed three roosters. Thanks to constance's cone, it wasn't so bad. They ended up being larger than I thought they would. It's still not my preferred way to start the day.

sorry.....

I've just introduced two beautiful birds to my 4 bird flock. Now I have 6 hens and 3 with a major attitude! My two new ladies are 6 month old golden sexlinks and Rhode Island Red. They are so docile and friendly, but we have a pecking order issue to deal with! Hopefully this get's over soon as I want them all to get along and be friends! I love my ladies!
Congratulations! You are learning "chicken math" LOL

Daisy was welcomed to Chicken Heaven this morning by her flock sisters who have gone before her. We are saddened that she left us but know she is running around once again. She was DH's favorite as this was the only girl he named.

So Sorry for you and DH. I know you did your very best. Daisy is a beauty and now all of her heavenly sisters can look at her beautiful golden feathers in awe! All of your girls are beautiful and they have a wonderful castle to live in and a great playground to romp in! I hope this is the end of the passing for a long while. RIP Daisy.

Unless I do the deed first thing in the morning, I find way to many reasons to put it off. Looks like I am going to have at least 20 to do this summer.

What do you and your neighbor do for the rabbits in this heat? I feel so bad for mine. I give them frozen water bottles to sit on, but they are still sooooo hot. I have misters for my chickens, but have been afraid of using one for the rabbits because I know they shouldn't really be damp like that. This is my first summer with them, and I feel like there should be something else I could do to make them more comfortable.
mine almost died from the AZ heat. I have them in a bunny barn with ac now my hubby made me. If I have only one id keep it in my laundry room but ive got 6 . And even cleaning cages daily was to smelly even for a short time while the bunny barn is being built. If you had a screened porch with a portable swamp cooler that would work great. or a pen outside so you could make them burrows under ground out of the heat. fans dont work they just blow the hot air back on them. frozen water bottles help, wet towels to lay on, mister as long as they arent getting wet, shade cloth helps. shade shade shade , Rabbit do amazing in winter but can die from heat.. Hard to find shade here in the desert where im at so we built the bunny barn and now dont have to worry. My neighbor is a breeder and has a barn with 2 large swamp coolers.

soooooooooo, i just got the fireman to go and get a 12x6x6 dog run for me. he brought it home and had the neighbor help him lift it over the wall and then he said, "you know, sometimes i really need to think things thru before i go and get them for you." i have the main coop(which has been expanded), a growout pen, an isolation turned into silkie pen, an outdoor brooder, and now...................DUCKIE GROWOUT!!!!!!!!!!!
