Thank you everyone for you condolences on Daisy.

Mikey- I believe Daisy had egg perintinitis. She was having issues with the interior egg department Wasn't heat related. All the girlies either hang out under the mister or in their cool coop. My brothers' Cuckoo Marans also passed away today but it was from the heat. Your Daisy must be just as beautiful...hope she keeps running a long time.

I'm soooooo sorry. This is a tragedy. The only thing you have to gain now is to learn something from it. And the rest of us from your experience. I hope you make the neighbors pay to restock your birds. What did they say? It ain't the dog. It's the fugging owners. Tomas in Tucson

I don't know what kind of Spanish they are. I didn't know there were two types. She has an active rooster. If mites isn't a big deal, and something I can and will have to contend with myself, I guess I should just do it. She has some about 6 to 8 weeks old. She also has some a year old. I may want the younger ones so I can get them use to us. Thank You! Tomas in Tucson

Silky breeders, How old can a silky rooster hold up as a breeder? Tumbleweed is 3 now, I think. How old is a hen silky when she is no longer a producer? It seems to me by the silky hens I have lost, 3 years is about it.

mine almost died from the AZ heat. I have them in a bunny barn with ac now my hubby made me. If I have only one id keep it in my laundry room but ive got 6 . And even cleaning cages daily was to smelly even for a short time while the bunny barn is being built. If you had a screened porch with a portable swamp cooler that would work great. or a pen outside so you could make them burrows under ground out of the heat. fans dont work they just blow the hot air back on them. frozen water bottles help, wet towels to lay on, mister as long as they arent getting wet, shade cloth helps. shade shade shade , Rabbit do amazing in winter but can die from heat.. Hard to find shade here in the desert where im at so we built the bunny barn and now dont have to worry. My neighbor is a breeder and has a barn with 2 large swamp coolers.

Thanks for the info. They are already in my screened in porch, so they are in constant shade. I don't have any sort of cooling system, though, except for the water bottles and a celing fan. I will explore the portable swamp cooler idea. Thanks.
