Arizona Chickens

He's a looker! Does he crow much?
Puffycheeks gave me some fertile eggs for my broody and she is now Auntie Lisa to Quinn and Trixie. He will probably go back to live at her house eventually. I am sad that he will have to leave. He is such a nice friendly boy. Just do not want the neighbors complain about him. My next door neighbor says she doesn't even hear my girls and they are right next to her and she is home all day.

He does crow some in the morning. I can faintly hear him from inside my house. I do not think the neighbors can hear him yet. I guess my "mom ears" are always at alert mode.

She veto'ed the chicken idea for YEARS!

An accidental visitor from next door opened permission & she likes 'em now.

I've caught her bringing them treats!

Care to "accidentally" toss one over my fence in to my backyard on a day that my wife is home? Heck, even if she isn't home, she'll see the hen when she comes home. I may have to schedule this on a day where I'm at work and pay someone to do it...

Interesting thought...

So I'm still looking at coop designs and reading up on taking care of these beautiful creatures, despite my wife threatening to leave me if I get any. Inside the coop's run, I'll plumb in a water sprinkler line to supply the mister system and the automatic watering nipples. It'll run around to the front where I can manually turn the sprinkler valve on or off.

While the hens are out free-ranging during the day, though, I'll need another setup. I can easily install one line inside the coop and another just on the other side of the hardware cloth for an outside line, but I was wondering if my automatic water faucet would work. I have the one of the water spigot attachments that allows the dog to always have fresh, cool water It operates under the same premise as the watering nipples. Do ya'll think that the lever control would be too large for the hens to operate or would it be ok? My Shepherd absolutely loves it and learned to operate it in about 2 minutes.

Not my dog, cat, or chickens ever learned to use that device, even after five years. I was so hopeful for the mammals too.
