Arizona Chickens

Speaking about feathers,
Our blue cochine has some feathers missing on the
left side of her bottom... She is about 6 weeks old...
At first, I thought she had some poo stuck but it looked
like dried up slime... ?? So I left it alone
So now it seems that the feathers are not growing..
I will try and clean it with warm water..
Anyway schould I be concerned ??

I wouldn't worry yet. While you're washing her off, check for parasites just to be sure.

Well we have our chicken hospital set up again for our special girl. Liliah is being treated for her second case of sour crop. It is odd how they are all on the same diet yet she seems to have this issue repeatedly. Ours our Dixie Rainbows, meat birds really but we chose them because they are really big and all different colors so it would be easier to tell them apart. The started laying at 4 months old and are now almost 6 months old and we are getting at least three eggs a day out of the six.

Anyway, back to the sour crop. We are treating her by first flushing her crop as much as possible and then isolating her and feeding her Yogurt, eggs and olive oil for the next four days to clear out the yeast. We are also treating with ACV in her water.

Any other natural remedies out there that any of you have used to thwart this annoying problem?

Thanks, and as always...Happy Pecking!

The timing of what to plant when is pretty important. Here is a pretty good and fairly comprehensive planting guide for the Phoenix area. Generally speaking, leafy vegetables (e.g. lettuces, celery, cabbage) and roots (e.g. potatoes, carrots, beets) are planted in the fall.
That's a good one. I have another calendar similar to this. Thank you, I've printed it out. Wish me luck!

Howdy all, New Future Chicken person here.

Just finished building my mostly all pallet / reuse chicken coop/run.

Have a REALLY crappy phone picture with glare on it.

I'm trying a shaded cover for the run - we have a dog and I've literally never seen any cats anything of the like in our yard due to his scent.

The picture makes it look like there isn't much ventilation in the coop itself, but there are large openings on the other 3 sides, the side you see is the east side, which gets a lot of sun, so i wanted to keep that shaded.

Don't have chickens yet, will be going on vacation in 3 weeks and the wife wants to wait until we get back so we can get chicks.

Was up at the Feed Barn yesterday, spoke with John in length, learned some good information, will likely get our chicks from there.
