Arizona Chickens

Thank goodness. I need to read back to see what to do for mites and lice...I sprinkle DE on them once in a while. ~Di

Mikey: Honey, we could buy some Americuna hatching eggs and put them under the broody. Just think how happy it would make the grand kids to see the little baby chicks following around the mother hen!

Control Tower: (In her best stern teacher's voice) there is no way I'm falling for that one again!

Does anyone know where I can get cattle panels in the Tucson area? I'm talking about the 50" x 16' welded wire panels that would be available at Tractor Supply Co if we had one here. Here's a link to the product:

Hmmm... the link is a bit long and may not work. To see what I'm talking about, go to www.tractorsupply.com and search for "cattle panel." I want to make a couple of hoop coops and maybe a hoop greenhouse or two, and these would be perfect for those projects. If I could find them. Closest Tractor Supply is in Silver City NM. Not exactly cost effective to make a run for them at that distance.

Oooh! I always wanted to try that with cattle panels. They're so strong you could make some incredible structures with them. I was going to use them before I went with the galvanized top rails. You can get them at Old Town Feed and Supply - 5665 W Ajo Way (west of Mission).
883-4323. They will even deliver them for $15, which is pretty amazing. You have to keep us updated on what you make! Reading Mama Hen Chris' post made me realize there is also a big outfit over in Stanfield that advertises on Craig's list too. A bit far away, but with all the variants in cattle panel-types.

Olivia is not happy to be indoors since yesterday. She sounded like she had a stuffy nose so she was banned to the house. She is not a good patient in the dog carrier. Olivia kept jumping inside the carrier as she wanted outside in the worst way. I let her stretch her legs and then she tried to figure out how to get out the window. I gave in and took her to the coop where she immediately jumped in the nest box and laid her pretty blue egg.

"Mom, can I go out and play? Veronica is waiting for me"

"How do I get out there?"

Hi all my AZ bird buddies!!! I am selling hens as a part of my SAE project in FFA and wanted to know if any of you would be interested in some spring chicks!! They are always very very tame hens and cost only around 5$ a bird! I can take requests on breeds but its usually limited to what i can acquire!! Thanks soooooooo much!!

I was also thinking of using remesh, since you can get a 5' x 150' roll of it for about $100 at Home Depot. I use a lot of remesh panels for trellises in the garden. Not sure they'd be sturdy enough for a coop hoop though. The remesh joint connections seem to break easily. If they're just holding up some vines I don't care. But if they need to slow down a dog they need to stay intact. I want to check out the cattle panels in person before deciding what to use.

Just ordered an incubator. Looking for a relatively inexpensive way to deal with the imminent need for additional chicken housing.
