Arizona Chickens

That's a good idea about the Reflexology.  I always forget about that for some reason.  I've never heard of using the Frankincence, though.  I'll look in to that now.  I'd definitely like to know the companies with the high quality oils, though.  I would say it's ok to post here, because you aren't advertising for the company and have no compensation.  I think they're looking to keep the actual companies out of the Forums, not friendly recommendations on something that has nothing to do with chickens.

We appreciate the good wishes from everyone!
I think you can find Frankincense at the religious stores..
If not you can for sure at sprouts or whole foods..
Young living is a great source..

Just my experience and opinion:
Please do not buy this oil for the purpose it is needed at Wholefoods or Sprouts. They are not pure enough. We need the purest when dealing with brain issues. Not sure what quality level of oils religious stores have if they even have the oil. They will more likely have the resin or chunks of Frankincence which has to be burnt.

We need everyone's thoughts and prayers today for an eight year old boy named Jed. He's a close friend of the family who has had severe development issues, including chronic constipation that stems from the child abuse he suffered as an infant. He's been adopted by my Mom's friend and it's been an uphill battle for them. Part of treating the constipation, the gastroenterologist put him on a "cleansing diet," which should never be done on a child with all of his health issues. Well, trusting him, she followed his directions and he was found two nights ago in the bathroom, unresponsive. He was rushed to the Emergency Room and then transferred to Phoenix Children's Hospital shortly later. The diet had made his sodium levels bottom out, which is called hyponutremia. They started IVs and his levels are back to normal, but he's been in a sleep state for 41 hours straight (as of 08:00am). He physically reacts to certain stimuli, such as being cold, so they won't call it a coma.

For the medical gurus, they've done an EEG, EKG, MRI, CT, bacterial and viral screening including meningitus, and spinal tap. Every test has come up clear. He's running a 105* temp, despite two ice baths over night and a continuous regiment of Tylenol to try to break the temperature. Since he was found in the bathroom and is constantly straining while at the stool, we are trying to get them to look in to vagus reflex. This would cause the fainting and may have caused the weak pulse when he was found. We are also trying to get them to do a more thorough exam of the abdomen to check for gastrointestinal tears and bleeding, again likely caused by the straining. Any other suggestions or thoughts?

I'm headed to bed, since I work night shifts, but hopefully we'll have good news by the time someone wakes me up with a magical phone call or I have to leave for work. I'll try to post an update if anything is found. Thanks ahead of time for the prayers.

He's in my prayers.

Since I will need to face it that my girls need a home/temporary home I need to ask who might be interested in providing my girls and new home/temporary home. I have 2 x 5-6 month young Red Sex Link big girls, they are larger than all of them. 2 x 4 month Araucana (darn spelling they will lay the green eggs) the other three are my oldest ones and were from my first set when I really didn't know much about chickens nor that there where so many breeds. Two are white, one has a couple of blackish spots on them. The third one must also be Araucana she lays green eggs. These older three one were bullied by one hen that passed this summer from the heat (never again will I get baby chicks in the fall, they just have a hard time with the summer heat) and a rooster I once had. Anyway these three girls still look rather scrawny feathered and I guess it takes a while for new growth to come in, I don't know. Oh I am just crying as I write this, my chickens are like therapy for me. A reason to get up in the early morning hours and start the day off in a wonderful way. They have helped me cope with hard times I faced and I felt so blessed with each egg they gifted me. I am so sad. :(
This is going to sound awful but is there anyway you can hide the birds while the inspector is there? Maybe put them, in crates in a bathroom or something then when they leave let them out? Is your lot fenced in? I can't understand how they can say no to some hens but allow yapping dogs?

jeds story shocked me and i will be very interested in how he progresses with this condition. is he in a constant sleep state? similar to the sleeping beauty cases? my thoughts and prayers are with the ones involved.
sevenrays i feel for you, i dread every day - just waiting for animal control to knock on my door. my neighbors homes are VERY close to mine and my coop is not in compliance with the rules. on one side they love my chickens, on the other side the renters are constantly changing and one day someone is bound to have a problem. i really hope things work out for you, dont give up. even if you have to rehome your current flock temporarily, keep trying to get your residence rezoned.

in other news, i discovered tiny shrimp and blood worms in my pond this evening. also, my lily (which i have only had maybe 4 months) is rooting off a whole new plant. looks like we have a stand alone little ecosystem. i've been thinking about draining it cuz its brown and i thought it was messed up, but apparently its doing what its supposed to :)

oh, i have aloha chickens and they are just beautiful. thats the first thing people say when they see my birds. they are also very heat tolerant and hardy and lay a medium (large, depending on hen) tan to brown egg. here are some chicks i raised.

Chris, you are the picture perfect Mama Hen. You have some of the luckiest girls around. If my wife turns in to half the caregiver you are, I'll be lucky.

You have some beautiful girls and the setup is awesome. Keep the pics coming!
Awww...thanks. Beautiful chicks wifey got but you need more than two to keep them company. I am sure your wife will turn into a "Crazy Chicken Woman"! :) Look forward to hearing about them.

I was just informed that he was moved to ICU today because his temperature and sodium levels had stabilized. About a half hour ago, they went in to panic mode because his temperature shot straight back up to 102* and his sodium levels started dropping again. There are a half dozen reasons for it, so we'll see what they decide it is. The hypothalamus, adrenal or pituitary glands, the kidneys or just excessive IVs. I'm really hoping for the last one.

Yes, he's in a constant state of sleep. The technical term is "stupor." He'll physically respond to outside stimuli, such as cold water or pain and grunting in response, but he won't open his eyes or communicate anything. It's akin to a newborn that will fuss and the nurse, all while never coming to a higher level of consciousness. Except that he doesn't even have feeding responses.

Oh, she's already turning into the Crazy Chicken Lady. Asks me every day if I changed the water and if there is enough food. She seems to be comfortable with the temperature, because she hasn't mentioned that. She's extra protective of them when the girls want to hold them, too. It's kind of cute, especially considering how much of a fuss she made when all this started developing! And it won't be too long before we add a few more chicks to the family. I'm going to start introducing them to the dogs this weekend, so that we can get the training underway that they are not a snack or a toy! This is all somewhat of an experiment with the first two, so I don't want to have too many around.
