Arizona Chickens

Well I finally decided that I was going to build a hoop house today.....until I checked prices on the cattle panels!!!!

$39.99 at Az Feed !!!!!!

I looked online and they are $19 at TSC. Of course we don't have those here. UGH. I hate over paying for stuff

AZ Feed is the cheapest source of cattle panels I've found so far in Tucson. The feed store closest to me has them for $45. The guy in Stanfield sells them for $33, but you have to drive to Stanfield - a lot of gas, let alone wear and tear on the truck. Plus it would involve carrying an oversized bunch of panels down the interstate.

I've been considering remesh for a hoop coop instead of cattle panels. It's not as solidly welded as the cattle panels, but it's much less expensive - around $100 for a 5' x 150' roll at Home Depot. I'd be covering it with hardware cloth and plywood scraps, so that would probably help stabilize the structure. Remesh tends to rust, but someone used it for the fencing around my property years ago and the rusting seems to be mostly surface rust. Fence is still standing. I use it a lot for trellises in the garden. It works pretty well. Should do for a hoop coop.

That is brilliant ! Especially since I had already planned on putting a "spine" down the middle

The ad got flagged for removal, so I don't know if I want the hens or not.
It was for 200, 1 year old, RIR hens, they were free but you had to take ALL of them.

I drive a Mini Van and a Mini Cooper, I could just imagine driving down the road with 200 RIR in the back

Feathers would be flying and there is no chance of hiding that from my DH!
