Arizona Chickens

YUP , they would be EEs but I imagine the EEs from Ideal or Myers would lay more.

I know, but there is no way on God's green earth DH will let me order chicks. He won't even let me get an incubator...he says it's not "natural". So I have to wait until I get another broody. :(. I think he knows we'd have chickens EVERYWHERE if I had an incubator. :p.

Good morning! I'm joining the thread, a new chicken momma living in Tucson. We have 4 one-month-old pullets and a coop in construction. Eventually we would like to incorporate them into an aquacultural setup with tilapia and veggies but for now, I'd just like them out of my garage :)

Hi all.

My beautiful Icelandic roo, Drekki Jr was too loud so I had to send him to Boston's Icelandic flock in Heber.

Would anyone like to hatch some purebred Icelandic eggs?

I don't want to have to pull out my bator (my wife would have a cow... especially cuz she doesn't know about the Ornamental Layers that will be arriving from McMurray the first week of February) but I would like about four chicks from Drekki Jr. You incubate my eggs all I ask is four chicks, you keep the rest.
... and when my new Blue Wheaten Roo starts doing his thing, I'll share those eggs with any helpers.
Any takers?

Fired up my incubator today to set some eggs late tommorow. If you have a pluthera that you want hatched I'll probably have some extra room.

you don't need an incubator.......just some silkies. or ducks as i am finding out! that momma duck bit me again this morning and held on like crazy. i just wanted to see the new ducklings. now there are 2! and she still has 3 eggs under her. the basque has 3 eggs. the silkies have 1. the incubator has 30

and i have 9 newly hatched chicks from this week, 5 basque and 4 bantam splash cochins. 3 EEs and 1 partridge sizzle went to live with Laree. yup, lost control of the farm again.

Welcome to the AZ thread and the chicken obsession. Has anyone explained chicken math to you yet?

Let me just say, make sure you build the coop much larger than you think you need.

Now THAT'S funny.

My first coop and run was for eight chickens, but then I bought ten more, and had to build a second coop and run. Now I am looking at buying 100 to 150 more chicks next March, and I have to build a HUGE coop and run for them, but I DO have enough land for that.

I plan on having two runs with coops that are 50 feet by 30 feet out in back and let the other two flocks stay in their "tiny" coops and runs. Actually those two runs and coops are portable, so they get moved once a week, EVERY week.
