I have heard of this "chicken math" phenomenon. My husband has already suggested we get a few layers now rather than wait for our fuzzies to grow up.Welcome to the AZ thread and the chicken obsession. Has anyone explained chicken math to you yet?![]()
Let me just say, make sure you build the coop much larger than you think you need.![]()
Ok reading on... Never mind on the last question...Thanks everyone. I think we got the fingerlings in mid to late May (I'm not entirely sure). It takes only about four months from fingerling to edible size with our summer heat. It really doesn't take all that much room, I grew these and about 75 others in a 4' X 8' space. Most people use IBC totes which occupy even less area. Not too bad given all the vegetables we got out of it too. Plus, the chickens will get what was left over after filleting them. Tomorrow I'm building a solar water heater to keep them alive and breeding over the winter. I'm really hoping it doesn't get too cold tonight for them.If the temps drop too low, it'll be a big day of cleaning fish tomorrow.
So, so, so true.. That is why I have no time for the Fourm..Congratulations! I know this maybe a stressful time going through all this, but this is just funny to me. Not laughing at you, just laughing at mother nature versus books/internet guides. That's were I get all my information anyways. However, I am finding they are just that, good guides, but not what actually happens. I have to laugh at the fireman's comment. "You've lost control of your farm!"![]()
Did any of us ever have control of these creatures we have living in our yards? Most everything I do revolves around my chickens.
I need to let them out in the morning, refill the water, make sure they have food, check for eggs. Are any of them sneezing, limping, loosing feathers? Are they all there? We just got new chicks so...Why are they making so much noise..are they okay? Do they have sticky butt? Do they have water? Gotta replace the shavings, fresh water, add food. Take them out for outside time. Are there any predators around. And on and on and on.
Welcome to the great thread.. Glad to have you!!Good morning! I'm joining the thread, a new chicken momma living in Tucson. We have 4 one-month-old pullets and a coop in construction. Eventually we would like to incorporate them into an aquacultural setup with tilapia and veggies but for now, I'd just like them out of my garage

Love this idea...Where did you get the info on how to do this.....I heard of one yesterday from another friend of the family, they combined it with a garden tower...didn't give it much attention till now that I see your post... got pictures? I think I would like to try it....My chickens are ready to harvest...20 are over 3 yrs old, no eggs....Tried to give them away...no takers...Babies are almost ready for laying.
Fish...great idea.
Wow indeed, where are the rest of the aquaponics postings? Any more pictures?
