Arizona Chickens

how funny. i always say "pullets" when talking about feed store chicks also. i have 4 "pullets" from the same place. Light brahma and EE so really no way to tell until they crow or lay an egg...

You do? Awesome! BTW, is anyone interested in a papered and registered chocolate-palamino QH? The owner is my boarding buddy, and just doesn't have enough time to exercise him everyday, what with her new grandbaby and all... He's 12 years old, shod (she doesn't think his feet are tough enough), and sweet tempered... If you are interested, just PM me!

Rezia: I might have a few that will be close point of lay after Christmas, it kind of depends on how many of the one that notinoz hatched for me are girls. I really need to post pics of the olive eggers, there are now a couple I'm starting to think might be girls.

Notinoz: the two little cockerels my crazy Cali White hatched are getting on to three months, and considering that they are now almost as big as their mom (and she was an early bloomer) I'm worried that they are going to start crowing before too long. If you want to pick them up, or have me drop them off sometime in the next couple weeks, let me know. I meant to say something the other day, but I forgot.

feed stores have day old chicks that they buy sexed, they say female only, but there are always a few surprises.

yes, vail is very rural, however there are some subdivisions and i live right in the middle of one, which makes it tough for predators to get to me. where i am moving will be on an acre of land on the border of a trailer park, where the whole other side of the property has dessert for a couple miles. So i will go from no predators to many.

I'm really tempted to keep a WC Blue Polish Roo for kicks and giggles as long as he isn't loud.
My Blue Wheaten Am. roo still hasn't started to crow. He isn't as pretty as I'd hoped, but he does have some nice blue lacing on the front.... but none of the four Wheaten hens I kept are laying so a lot of good that does me!

I also wish I had a BCM roo to put over my BCM and my two olive eggers. Ah to dream. quote from Mahonri

In my experience Polish are loud ! It is sad not to be able to keep roosters. Many of us are in the same situation.
In my experience, polsh roos are wimps. Very submissive and not much into crowing.

All in all, it depends on the individual bird. (Best of luck in finding a low-crowing rooster that you like.

I am in the middle of the city and predators are ALL AROUND!!! I am within a mile of three large grocery stores, two drug stores; two miles fro a large mall, three from another and many LARGE shopping centers close by. Coyotes, owls and hawks are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Seen in the neighborhood, taking birds and cats. Sometimes in full daytime.

Since I have been reading about loose dogs attacking & killing
most of someone's flock.. We now keep a bat close by.. Also our
German Shepard as well..
Hawks another story.. Our bantams I do worry about.. They are
lighting fast.. We as flock owners can never be to careful..
