Arizona Chickens

400

My lovely girls. All chickens should be so happy. Dust baths, places to explore, food, water, and a warm place to roost for the night.

Both Mountain and Lowland Gorillas are almost exclusively vegetarian (a very small part of their diet is composed of insects, largely termites). Just sayin'

Most other non-gorilla primates are generally more omnivorous.

LadyKotaDoria, sometimes you just have to pick your battles with determined people like your sister, especially concerning food issues. It always seems tougher when it's family too, because you care about what they're doing to themselves. And yeah, what is a Mittleidler garden?

Sonoran Silkies, I share your concerns about the lack of animal protein in organic feeds. I wish there were more options for feed with organically grown grains and fish meal. I feed organic, but I think my birds get decent amounts of animal protein from free ranging, mealworms and fish carcasses. That maybe easier or more feasible for a smaller flock that can be free ranged.

Kev--did you take the chicks from the broody?

Hey looky there, the website is going to let me comment and search for some info now..... to answer your question, no the chicks are still with the mama and are separated from the rest of the flock. I don't think I should let the chicks roam the yard freely even with the mama hen protecting them, we have chain link fence all the away around and they could easily find their way to "never coming back land"

Yea I know kind of sad. I am amazed at the consolation prize for the worst hatch! Not sure how good of an Idea that was. I was one of two of the worst hatch at the Easter one last year. Not setting to many but going to enter. My incubator is all set! I got a fan for my Little Giant for an early Christmas Present and have a turner also.:yesss:

I was the other!

Gallo del Cielo helped me with my coop today. Okay, by "helped" I mean he did all the work while I watched supervised.

We made some progress. Or rather, we bought new wood, undid almost all the original progress, redid the vertical beams to make everything a foot taller because I insisted on making it too short, screwed it all back together, and did a little extra.

Now to stain it, attach the floor and walls to the house portion, add a roof, add the wire, build a door, move it onto the foundation...

May I suggest you look into getting Simpson Strong Ties, their hurricane straps will help. Any place that has construction supply's, Home Depot and Lows have them, if you ask around for someone that is knowledgable in construction, the person can tell you how to use the effectively. I have worked as a draftsman/designer in construction for many years. They are called hurricane straps because that is what they do. You home has them on every beam and roof trusses. That is what keeps your roof from blowing off. There are codes to size, shape, and number that must be used in building construction. Sheds and coops not so much.

I wish I could help you more.
