Arizona Chickens

It sounds like you folks are on the road to making tulapai or tisquin. You may get a visit from the revenuers. When I was a kid, people used to make that stuff, and let me tell you sometime the smell would gag a maggot.

well I do not know your reference but ACV just smell fruity but looks awful and I would not drink it.

I started doing this but I don't know if I was having any luck. I know they would gobble it up but I wasn't sure if any of the fermenting was taking place. Is there a certain temperature that it needs to be kept at? I believe the blog said "warm" but what does one consider warm?

Room temp in my kitchen can be anywhere from forty degrees and up. My older bucket of feed has a nice vinegary smell to it, my newer bucket is not as strong smelling, but getting stronger. If you aren't sure you could bring it into a warm spot in the house and see if it perks up. The longer you do this the stronger and better it gets and the faster the new feed ferments.

Today is the both the third birthday (hatchday) of five of my seven birds and the third anniversary of us having chickens in Tucson. I'll have to give them something special today.

Does ANYONE have some new chicks, hatched within the past 3 days? I've GOT to put at least two under my broody before she dies... she's been on the nest for almost 4 weeks now.

It took three weeks or more in my cool house to get the brew to be nice a fruity smelling. But now it is working just fine and I keep adding to it to make sure that I have some in the pot.
Thank you for all of the imput.. Fermented feed sounds a bit weird. But if it's healthy & makes my chickens yokes nicer. Then it's worth it.

I do if you want to come to Wittmann to get them. I have two silky/polish babies hatched on the 1st.
