My 29 year old nephew died today in Mesa.

He was a DPS officer.

We are in shock.

That is a terrible shock. One of my cousins died suddenly in their apartment, autopsy was inconclusive but they think he might have gone into diabetic shock and couldn't get to his insulin before he passed out. My condolences to your family.

Rain, how wonderful. A nice soaking rain, I so hope it helps our drought hear. How are everyone girls ( & roos) doing with this rain. I'm going to have to get a good roof on my coop, but they can keep dry....... If they go in or under their coop, and it is not soaking in there.

We're in Northwest Peoria, so I'm sure we're about as wet as you are. Nice, huge puddles all over and it's been a light rain since about 2000 Hours last night. My girls are pretty content. Their coop is underneath our porch roof, so they stay completely dry. They are a bit bored in there, so I'll throw in some pine bedding and go spread some mealworms and bird seed around for them to peck for. I'm not sure if I have any leftover veggies or anything to add to it, but I'll refill their fermented feed dish, too.

My family and I are loving it, although we had planned a "family day" and wanted to go biking to the park for a little picnic. That idea was thoroughly shot out the window. So instead, we went to Goodwill's half-price Saturday sale and spent about two hours there, then we hit DQ for their Customer Appreciation Day where everything is half-price, and finally to WalMart for some ingredients for a new chicken stew she found. It was in a $1.00 cookbook at DQ for a "Friend's Of the Community" sale.

All in all, a good day indeed. Now, to get some pickled onions brewing for the dinner and stuff put away...

I am not done till after their bed time... Do you think they will get sick.. ??

my coop floor and run are flooded too...guess they will dry when they roost tonight up in their hen house...i need to grade/level their area apparently...such a drag...love the rain but this much this fast is dreadful!!

I initially came to ask about the rain and my chickens. When I was reading up on
posts I had to stop and catch my breath for the loss of such a young man. prayers
are being sent to all affected.

Our 3 chickens have an A-Frame tractor set up and the entire lower level is wet. They
are hanging out down below. where they roost and half the upper level is dry,
but there is a leak (needs caulking) on the other half.
The pine shavings are damp on that half. Their nest box is dry. (they have approx
8 feet of length total to the tractor and approx 5 feet of width down below. Upstairs is
approx 2.5 feet in width. Do you think they will
be ok until I can get out there and put a tarp over the affected area and change the
bedding. DH is in Tucson today so not able to move the tractor from the spot it's in.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
