Arizona Chickens

I was on the silkie Fourm.. One family has had a blizzard where they are.. So I asked if they use anything to keep them warm
They replied " no just deep Shavings & a little insulation in the coop"

I remember ready here on our Fourm that some people would use heat lamps for their chickens... We got to 25' here in Tempe
a few weeks ago... We did nothing... But then I was thinking that it was probably someone who had baby chicks outside? Not
sure but found it interesting...

During that really cold snap, we hit 21* here in far North Peoria. The only thing we did was throw a blanket over the coop to protect them from the crazy wind. They seemed extremely comfortable the entire time. During the day, even with highs in the mid-30*s, we let them out and uncovered the coop. They roosted in the regular spots and everything. The coop is on the back porch and designed so we can see in from the window.

Now, they were all fully feathered, so chicks would be a very different story...

I have a small backyard with close nieghbors. Can hens get loud? If so are there any tips to minimize it? Thanks

My hens are no louder than a typical bird you find in the yard. In fact, when I overseeded my yard for winter, the swarm of birds were significantly louder. I would say volume-wise, it's probably no louder than a typical house cat.
