Arizona Chickens

Ah, make a day trip out of it.  I'm not sure if you have any younger kids, but there's some great things to do down here.  We have the Challenger Learning Center about three miles from the house, or a morning trip to Lake Pleasant.  There's also the Heard Museum West nearby in Surprise.  Just to name a few.  We'd love to have you come!

It's confirmed for March 10th.  Everyone can start showing up at 1600 Hours, and we'll probably start eating at 1700 Hours.  I'm thinking we can start the fire at 1730 Hours for the kids and let them play in the yard all they want.  We'll supply some Tilapia, Flounder, pork chops and a Hawaiian pasta salad..  Maybe if someone wants to bring about five pounds of chicken, we'll grill those, too.  Otherwise, side dishes and dessert is open game.  We're doing it potluck style.  It should be mid-70s that day.

Everyone is welcome.  Please just PM me for the address and to confirm what you want to bring.  We're looking forward to it.

Ooh fun stuff, my birthday's the 7th so it's like a late bday party! Also perfect time after hubby gets off work. Does it matter if I'm not a chicken person yet, just a future chicken person? :p

I'll check with hubby to make sure we're open to come, our son would love some kids to play with.
Will PM.

Hello everyone!! New guy here, new to chickens as well. I picked up 3 for a small backyard flock for some eggs and to teach my kids about taking care of animals that provide for you!!

Here's the furballs we started with, they were supposed to be Amerucana's, but as they gotten older I think they are just EE's from all I've read here on the forums.

Just thought this was a cool picture!!

Here's the girls.....well....I hope they are all girls, I was told they were sexed so let's see!!

Goldie Hawn

Buffy the Meal Worm Slayer

And last but not least.....Nervouse Nellie....gotta have one in the bunch right?

I'm glad I found this site! There is so much info, and I cannot believe how fast this little creatures grow! I believe they are only 2.5 weeks old in the newest photo's.

Welcome !!! Pretty gals you have there. They do not stay puffballs for long. Pretty soon chicken math will set in and you will have more puffballs. They are very addicting.

Of course you're welcome no matter what. Besides, it'll be a good exposure for your husband and kids, plus you'll be able to see the coop and stuff so far. It's nothing like what Mama Chris has, but it's a nice little setup. There will be some other non-chicken people there, too. They use to have chickens in Washington, but the rental house they're in won't allow it.

WELCOME! Those are pretty little chicks. You're right, they are EEs. Very pretty, though! Glad you joined us!

**CORONATION SUSSEX & BLUE LACED RED WYANDOTTE PULLETS AVAILABLE ********* HI AZ'ers!!! I have decided to focus solely on just a few heritage breeds and am limited on suburban space, so I am offering 2 lovely pullets that just started laying a few weeks ago. They are best friends and I would like them to go together. They are nice birds and lay regularly in the nest box. I have recently wormed my flock and they have been dusted too....so everyone's ready for Spring and coming heat burden too. They were hatched on Chicken Scratch Poultry Farm in Illinois and shipped to me as young pullets. They are about 9-10 months old. I am asking $50 for both as a pair to a good home, which is less than half what I paid for them. Both are nice quality birds but because they are not yet APA recognized varieties, they would not be suitable for showing...but perhaps breeders and of course decent layers too. I figured that I would post here on our AZ BYC thread before offering them elsewhere. Please PM me if interested

That BLRW looks just like the one I lost last year! DH actually said we could get them, but I surprised myself by saying no. I just don't have enough room right now. :(

Day 25 for the duck egg. I candled it this morning and I could feel it moving and tapping. Any day now. It's sibling eggs are at pastrymama's house. Mama broody is a silkie.

Sorry to hear you lost her...what happened?? Yes, with us chicken lovers...there's never enough room it seems.

I don't know. She was fine, then the next day she died. I was so sad, she was beautiful. The day after I brought her home she went broody. I gave her 5 chicks and she was awesome. That was our first broody hen/chick experience so I have very fond memories of her. If I could get DH to open up the side yard to the chooks, I'd have plenty of room. But he's so busy right now I don't want to ask him, and I'm 30 weeks pregnant and pretty much useless for manual labor right now. Otherwise I'd snatch up those hens!
