Arizona Chickens

RIP my beautiful sweet Tansy! Three days ago I found Tansy wondering around like she was lost. I thought maybe her top crest got so fluffy she couldn't see we noticed she was kind of thin. I checked her over but found nothing. She had stopped laying also. Well I did trim her face but the next day she was laying around more. I checked her again and saw one lice on the back of her neck this time. I went to work and and clean the coop and dusted all the birds even tho none of the others had any trouble. I cleaned and dusted the other 2 coops also. Tansy acted better yesterday and thought, yea I caught it in time but no this morning she was dead.

I still think lice gets on sick birds but doesn't bother healthy ones. I might be wrong.

I bought a seedless grape vine to plant on the west side of the run. That should shade them well from the coming onslaught of summer.

We planted 3... Back in october/ november...All different variety . I have been out spraying the leaves with thieves, all natural cleaner..
It not soapy like some suggest to use.. It contains essential oils that repell insects.. It will not hurt the plant..
Also using it on our climbing roses...
Our flock loves to eat the old blooms from the roses...

Oh no!!! Condolences from our family.. She is so beautiful.. I read on another Fourm that some lice/mite .... Only come out at night?? Not to sure.. I wonder what they carry... Like for example mosquitoes carry west nile.. How old was she?? Did she free range? And or do the wild birds come into their coop area??

Tansy free ranges. Not seen a lot of wild birds in coop. Tansy was not yet a full year. She had gotten broody once after a clutch of eggs. She was laying again. I was waiting for her to get broody so she would set some americanus for me. Oh well, that's not going to happen now.
