Everyone- found a random egg in the yard today. I heard someone singing the egg song while I was cleaning the coop, but didn't see any chooks in the area I found the egg. It almost looks like it was dropped on the run :lol The egg was smaller and REALLY dirty: yellow-ey, but without poo on it. Almost like it sat in the chute while other things came down--which I think is impossible, but who knows? It feels like it has a thick shell, had has a few pecks in it--not enough to break it, just teach it a lesson. I hope this means my freeloading Aloha chicks are ready to become big-girl pullets.

Sorry Mahonri!! I uploaded one pic and before I could post it, DH came in yelling, "first rattle snake of the season!" So I ran out to take pics and help him kill it.

I will upload pics of both! Chicks and snake!

They are out folks!! Be careful!

This one was right behind the coop. Dh was inside the coop working on the broody's expansion. He heard it rattle at him and when he looked it was only about 3 feet away. He was inside the fence - thank God!

Dh and brother killed, skinned and gutted the thing which was between 3 1/2 and 4 feet long. Yuk! Brother put it on the bbq. It's all toasty, now. Not really appetizing, though...

Okay, does anyone else think this leghorn has crazy feathers? My last leghorn didn't look like this as she was feathering out. Any guesses what her deal is? Could a hatchery bird be frizzled? Or will her feathers lay down eventually.

I'm so glad no one was bit or hurt. It's going to be a bad year.
Here at the Biosphere we have moved 10 Rattlesnakes so far this year.

We had one about that size in our driveway yesterday.
I tried to run it over and missed, then I turned around and it was gone.

Hubby and I looked for it and couldn't find it.

It gives me the hibie jubies!!
