I love mixed breed flocks and wouldn't have it any other way - having just one breed would be so boring. Of course, I don't have any roosters and am not breeding, just enjoying watching the chickens and eating their eggs. What reasons did they give for not mixing breeds?
You've seen my flock. I have 3 Barred Rocks, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Black Australorp, 1 Light Brahma, 2 Barnevelders, 11 Easter Eggers, 2 Ameraucanas, 1 Production Red and 1 Black Star. The only problem I've ever had with them getting along is when I mix ages, not breeds. Integrating younger pullets to an established flock is a bit of a job.
