Arizona Chickens

So I am a 4-h leader in flagstaff and I'm looking for some fun activities and things to talk about with them any ideas

Yes, I just made an incabators from things I have in the house. I bought a dozen Trader Joes fertalized eggs. They are 7 days old now. I eat 3 of them when I got home leaving 9, I candles them just now. 7 are developing. This would be a good project for 4-H. Every one build an incabator out of things at home. They only thing they may have to buy is a thermometer, to check on the tem. Discussion on what is required. It is also responsibility.

I made my first one with a heating pad and towels. A cup with water. For 2 weeks I did rather well. They were growing nicely. Then I had to be gone for a day, It got rather warm that day, I had not checked on the out side temp, and I had not turned on my A/C to go on when it got warm. It got up to 115 degrees. I made this one out of glasse bowls with wood shavings. I adjust the temp by moving the light. It has been holding 99-101 deg. Humidity is again a smale glasse of water. I placed it in a room that is stable temp. When I was a child I built one out of a box. A styrafoam cooler is a suggestion. It doesn't have to be complicated.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I'm wondering if anyone would like my dead mini fridge to make an incubator out of? It's not a wine fridge with a window but I'm sure one could be added if you wanted to.

Added some shade to the west end of the run until the grape vine takes over.

hey can you post close ups of the foundation on your set up? we are trying to figure out what would work best and i suggested cinder block, just unsure how to place it. are boards sitting on top of block? or is bllock just surrounding the bottom?

Does anyone have anything related to poultry that they would be willing to donate to the Queen Creek FFA? We are trying to build a coop and run with chickens but we also have no money. Seriously anything is appreciated!!! Thanks guys

Even if all of my "children" have feathers or fur - LOL! And I will absolutely take you seriously, as long as you don't a) dress your chickens in outfits of any kind and b) apply cosmetics to them. Oh, yes people on this forum have - albeit, young, innocent people like 12-year old girls who thought that painting their hens' nails with polish was cute. I frankly just wanna know how they got them to AGREE to this activity, and have them come talk to my mean ole rooster about letting me in the enclosure without attacking me! Haven't had to deal with nail issues on chickens myself, but have been battling chicken lice pretty successfully with diatom, Sevin and Frontline. Hopefully, that will resolve itself now with the warmer/drier weather...

I have some chain link fencing that you are welcome to - 6 foot high and unsure on length but probably 8-10 feet and some old 2X4 and 2X8's - but we are at the "opposite end" of the world from you - Desert Hills - PM me if interested maybe we can meet halfway?
