Arizona Chickens

City Farm: I was kidding about doing it. Well, mostly kidding. I would love to take that on as a project, but roos aren't a realistic thing for me for the forseeable future, and I don't have the thousands of dollars laying around that it would take to import a bunch of Langshans.

Jeepgirl: Eggs that are a pinkish brown aren't uncommon, is the egg pink all the way through?

Mikey: Good to see you back! My Pet Chicken has Appenzeller Spitzuhauben, they are supposed to be pretty hardy.

Released the young girls today. Of course the big girls kicked their butts a bit. When the older girls cooped up, Sasha followed, but Button stayed in the run and peeped like crazy. I watched and one of the older Buff girls came out and went back in 5 times until Button got it an went in. That's good news.
The bad
I peaked on the coop for a while an Sasha has joined the older girls on the roosts, but Button seems a little injured and couldn't get off the floor of the coop. She's hunkered down in a corner somewhere now. I hope she's not seriously hurt. She's getting so pretty. I'll check her better in the morning light.

In other news, after a long day at work, I came home and started the framing for my south patio. The main purpose for this patio is to shade the real patio. It's 15'x10' and will be covered with shade cloth.
Now, I'm on the patio with another beer and listening to Steely Dan.

Howdy Folks!

I know I know - it's been a while.

To coin a metaphor, I've cut it in half and am now burning all 4 ends.

However, the control tower has approved getting a few (she said ten, it may be a few more, like 25) new peepers.

So here I am!

Anyone have any Appenzeller Spitzhaubens?

OMGosh!!! It's so great to see you back Mikey D! Inquiring minds want to know what you've been up to! APs; it's great to see that you're still nuts for those guys!

Mikey D is BACK!!! I've been wondering how you were doing, and what happened with your flock. We missed you.

Thanks for all the welcomes peeps!

I do miss this place but busy as busy can be.

In addition to teaching @ MCC 2 nights a week I'm taking an AutoCAD class during the other two.

Hahahahahahahaha! done with the remodel? ha!
It is 93% done but you know me...

We bought the house behind us and fixing it up makes our remodel look like a weekend project.

Also spun a bearing in Lil'blue's engine so we're going to splice a 30 year newer engine / drive-line into it.

We got the crew-cab swap onto the duce & a half about finished, just needs the interior.

On the bright side I've made a deal with a buddy to finish the galvanized coop/tractor monstrosity.

And we's gonna get some peeps!

I'll be on the roof tomorrow so I'll snap some picts of the stuff.

I'm down to 8 cluckers:

Dot (AKA Fat Dot) red broiler that I'm still in love with
Meow and Dash - Red layers
Both Gretchens (barred rocks who are friendly as all get out)
Princess's sister (Wellsummer) Princess passed away and her mean step sister survives
Gisselle (GSL - also darn friendly)
Fuzzy (the Silky cochin cross who brought death to my flock (Lost 20 birds))

The Control Tower said if the fish pond goes I could have ten more.
ten - 25 whatever it takes...

I really want some App Spitz.
I'd like blue egg layers.
And a couple black Australorps to replace the ones I lost & maybe some splashed or spangled cuties.

That's ten, right?

The Control Tower! Lmao, now that's funny! Makes me think about the "Fireman" and his wife, though I don't recall who exactly it was. Haven't seen her on in awhile, either, I don't think.

And no, that's not ten. That's only four by my count. App Spitz, Easter Eggers, Austrolorps, and Cuties...

"Oh, you meant ten CHICKS, babe? I thought you meant ten BREEDS!!! I'll remember that's what you meant for NEXT time..." ;-)

And welcome back, too! Sounds like we've got a lot in common, so I know what you mean about being busy. But you know what? A 104 year old man I was serving for his birthday told me the secret to living a long, active life is to always have a project going, plus two on the backburner waiting to go. You'll never be ready to pass away until you "finish that last project out there." Best advice I'm ever been given.

My Great Grandma was the same way. At 91, she was spring cleaning in her hen-house turned storage shed. When she went to move a large roll of roofing paper, the adobe wall fell on her. It still took six paramedics to strap her to the gurney. She lived another ten years, but was never quite the same.

We could do well remembering the ways of our elders. They knew the secrets to life that much of America has lost. Of course, most of us here are starting yo scratch the surface of that knowledge, so I guess I'm preachin' to the choir.

Wow, talk about rambling! Night all.

Pastrymama is married to the fireman.

The biggest thing I notice between the older girls and the young uns is food. When the youngsters try to move in for treats or food thats when the older ones peck and them and chase them. Hope the little girls don't starve.
