Very cool that your dog doesn't view the chickens as chew toys!
Thanks City farm! I just can't wait for it to be done already, hopefully we're not too far off from finishing. Why not have spiral stair case? Hey if you can do it go for it!!![]()
Then video tape them going to & fro... Your coop looks nice so far.. Can't wait to see the finished look
That sounds AWESOME!!!! I would tell him yes actually I do, do you think we can find mahogany? That would totally accent their feathers. Ill look.up plans and get you a parts list for the next time we go to lowes. That would be a priceless reaction!Plus I wanna see chickens using a spiral staircase. Its already hilarious watching them walk up the two stairs to my deck...![]()
Thanks Notinoz! It was like that. The guy that originally bought/built the house I guess poured cement pads for a living. So our whole side yard on the west side is cement. Which is great if you have an RV (which we don't), not so great for my mini-farm. So I've got a raised bed garden that I built on top of a hot tub pad. And there was that weird little gravel/dirt pool that they had built a bridge over (it was weird), so my husband had the idea to use that for the run. But you're right, now that the coop is going up around it, it looks like it was made for it. And at least it'll keep them off the cement so they don't get sore tootsies.i LOVE the curve you have going here. did you did this area out or was it there? it looks so well planned cant wait to see finished pictures! yes on spiral staircase, it will go with the curves, lol
AZKat, thanks for posting this! I didn't know about it and have been looking for where to get organic feed for a good price. I signed up, thanks!!This just got posted, the organic feed co-op that has been in Phoenix for awhile has expanded to Tucson. I've been getting their feed for awhile and have been very happy.

Love it, I love watching my girls. Talking about watching, is anyone formilur with DropCam? My nephew was two of them in my mom's room. One has voice, only he has access to that. A combination of expense and computer memory or something. Our intire family has access to the other one. Now we can look in on mom and see how she is doing. Because of mom's health almost everyone is visiting mom, those that can't feel terrible, the camera helps them deal with not being here with her. Mom knows how lucky she is at 96. The voice one is because when My nephew leaves the house he can still keep an eye on her and they can talk. This is were the chickens come in. It would be nice to have one in the coop or run, or both. When I start to work I can check on my girls any time. Here is a snap shot after prayers, the DropCam is placed near her bed so we all can look in if we like. Some video from this afternoons free range.

demo, it looks like sneezes to me. and the neck stretches are trying to get air. you know how sometimes when you have drainage the mucous blocks airways? i had a hen who must have had allergies because she did this frequently (i rehomed her, not sure about her health condition now)
hope she gets better soon![]()
I use an organic grower mash and it ferments great! No waste at all! I do not use layer feed at all because I have roosters and young birds too. Even if you didn't ferment, I would think just wetting it down a little would be helpful. I personally prefer the mash over crumbles or pellets when fermenting. Those of you who feed the phoenixorganic feed: I noticed it is only available as powder, and not pellets. Seems like this would only be ideal for young chicks & not adult birds. Don't you get a LOT of spillage & wastage with this particular organic feed? Is all organic feed like this, or are some companies making organic pellets as well? I am curious here
I tried a couple duck diaper places (one very expensive) and this is was my favorite AND least expensive... I also got wonderful chicken saddles.
Welcome!! Where are the Peacock Mountains? You must be South because where I'm at it was a beautiful 72 today!I'm new to the forum & fairly new to AZ. A lot of my neighbors have chickens. I used to have a nice flock in CA, but now I'm in the Peacock Mountains & have to wait until I can get a safe coop because of all the predators in my area. I really miss having some layers, but am still adjusting to this climate. I'm also just starting a new job-working the 12 midnight to 8 a.m.shift.. Lots of changes for my golden years.

I have yet to go the fermented feed route, although I have to admit my curiosity is up and I would eventually like to try it. I can see where pellets wouldn't make a bit of difference in that case. I guess I just love the convenience of pellets & they do make it easier for me to hand feed my birds.I use an organic grower mash and it ferments great! No waste at all!
