Arizona Chickens

Those of you who feed the phoenixorganic feed: I noticed it is only available as powder, and not pellets. Seems like this would only be ideal for young chicks & not adult birds. Don't you get a LOT of spillage & wastage with this particular organic feed? Is all organic feed like this, or are some companies making organic pellets as well? I am curious here
I have been feeding this since last fall. I happen to ferment my feed so no waste there. On the first order I ran out and had to buy the junk from the feedstore (they were out of purina and only had krouse, which looks like it is nothing but corn and soy and of course not organic) My birds wouldn't hardly eat it, even tho they had had it before, they were looking at me like "what the h*ll is this cr*p?" While I haven't done a side by side test my birds reaction to the other feed tells me a lot. They really seem to do better and look better on the organic feed.

I will also say that I have been hatching a lot of eggs this month and they are 99% fertile with 90% hatches of big healthy chicks. My eggs have nice big bright yellow to orange yolks that stand up well in the pan. I love this feed.

I was talking to Scott Brown, the coordinator, at the last pick up and he says we are almost at a full truck load for the Tempe drop. But to get monthly delivery we would have to double the order we have now, since with a monthly drop people would only order half as much.

I feed the 17% layer with fish meal to all my adults and feed the 20%broiler grower as a chick starter and grower, even small day olds are able to handle the cracked grains in it since I ferment it and it's soft.

FREE COOPS!

OK so they are not yet coops - but with a little ingenuity and sweat equity...

This one was a play house.

The sheet-rock on the inside walls has been Ka-bashed by little demons.

It has 2 window openings and needs a tad bit of work. (No you cannot have the I-beams!)

The next two are ramshackle sheds

They will also need a tad bit (OK - maybe a bit more than a tad bit)

This one on the left is 12' wide x 10' deep x 7' tall

This one on the right is 6' wide x 8' deep x 8' tall and has a little lean-to attached

(of which my cluckers are going to be pretty ****** off when it goes by-by)

I make no claims on the structural integrity or water tight-ness of them other than they are still standing.

Please call or PM me if you would like one or all of them.

You will need a trailer and yes I'll help you load them.

Darn Mikey! I don't have a trailer or a rig to haul it with! Or I would sure be after those sheds~!

The girls are out for some free range AND the dog is out! So far so good. It's been o er an hour and she's left them alone as long as we are there to call her.

So we set eggs in my classroom on Thursday

This is a first for me--I always let a broody hatch them out, so much less work for me.

I am nervous about this-seems easy but on the other hand so many variables.

The kids were so excited about the eggs, I hope we have a good hatch for them.

On a side note, apparently putting eggs in a bator makes your cochin decide to go broody. We had a few extra eggs that did not fit in the bator so now she is sitting on them. The cochin went broody yesterday and since she spent the night in there, gave her the eggs today and found my banty frizzle sitting in there with her growling and fluffing up at me too. Hmmm guess I let them co sit if that's what they want to do. Silly birds. This should be interesting in 21 days-hey isn't that mother's day?

Well Mary, If someone does not come and get them - maybe we can work something out.

Looks like you are just this side of Globe...yes?

I get my organic feed from Modesto Milling in CA. It is available as crumble or a pellet.
