Very nice, I hope you don't mind if we take some names from your flock.. I like Barbara, Eloise, lacy, & darlene.. & of course Button from MaddBaggins.. I did the same the other day.. I took a photo of our garden.. It does help to enjoy that moment... I can't wait to post some photos...![]()
Believe it or not, there are 15 chicks under this big broody plus some eggs that she is sitting tight on!!!

Since we had the strong Santa Ana winds all day yesterday and the pool was chocked full of twigs, leaves and yellow blossoms, (and I spent HOURS cleaning this pool) I had to capture this moment in time when it looks pristine. Water temp is 74... perfect!

Garden... lots of squash, both zucchini and yellow crookneck, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, and strawberries with the run in the background and coop in the back right corner.

Eloise, my EE who just started laying HUGE Green eggs.

Two of my five polish girls. These are the only two laying. The other Buff laced has no wattles, just a beard.

OK, you breed experts, is she a Delaware or a Columbian Rock? She is HUGE and just started laying small dark brown eggs.

Another pic of mama.. she just has to stay tight on those last few eggs until Monday night. Think she'll make it? If not she's got the fifteen chicks to care for and she is such an attentive mother for a first time broody. (Black Copper Olive Egger)

Thank youI have a white silkie sitting on duck eggs but they are Pekin/Rouen mix... and not due until around the 21st. You might want to check on the duck forum as there are lots of muscovy owners on there.
Love all your pics as usual!
In my Humble opinion chicks die. Not all chicks are going to live. I don't think anything is going wrong, these chicks just weren't thriving. That is why when I read that a person boasted that he never lost a chick I didn't believe him. It is natures way. You did a good job hatching all you did.Ok az, I am stumped.....about 2 weeks ago I hatched out a batch of eggs. Some were local, a few we're some trader joes fertile eggs, and some of my own backyard mixes. I had 30 chicks hatch. All but 1 late one thrived, and were doing fine. 2 days ago 2 chicks were gasping for air. Their crops were empty, and 15 minutes after I noticed them gasping, the flopped around violently and died. The same happened with one this morning. All other chicks seem fine. No gasping, eating and drinking well, and clean butts, no diarrhea . I am stumped. These were not weak chicks. They were not skinny, or lethargic. Temp was good in brooder, so I don't think it was heat related. I have another batch of eggs in the bator and am terrified that I have something dangerous happening here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Love your pics. Great pristine pool and garden. Can't believe she's setting on all those babies plus eggs.
