I always let my broodys raise the chicks with the flock. This makes it so much easier when they are independent as they are seen as part of the flock. A broody hen is pretty good at keeping others away from her chicks-glad to see your rooster is helping with chick duty, mine do that too.I know I'm breaking all the rules by letting a broody raise little chicks in the pen with all the other hens, but it's working out well. Plus, I don't have a separate pen available right now. Between the mama hen and the rooster, my other hens have been forced to stay in the coop when the chicks are out. I had to put another waterer in the coop and increase the free ranging time for the poor girls!![]()
Enjoy your broody and her babies--it is lots of fun to watch them and so much easier than raising them yourself
I thought the same thing........ do they have that for chickens?!
