Boss Hogg is the lady of the hour! 18 weeks and 2 days, what a star!

Chicks of Hazzard never saw an egg such as that ! It would make you proud !

Wow we have had a thunderstorm with a heavy downpour ! Nice because it cooled the earth and wet it at the same time. Oh Boy I can skip watering this evening !

Any one ever consider adding the CREAM LEGBAR to their flock ? I have a pair, six months old and producing nicely.

Thanks guys!! I think it's a residue on the egg. I'm not sure if it's from her butt or if it's hard water deposits from the misters. She laid her egg in the run area rather than the nesting boxes, so it could be from the misters. But I think it looks pretty neat anyway. I didn't want to wash it until I use it. But I'll be having a fried egg for breakfast tomorrow, WOO!! Oh, and she's a red star!

Very probably from your misters then. shoot, thought we had a new kind of egg to lust after!

City farm:  When I worked in the ER, we always had airport workers come in during the summer with heat stroke.  I can't imagine being out there in the summer.

I have had heat stroke. I was working as a lumper. One of my co-workers saw it, picked me up carried me to the hose, some one was there, I was being totally drenched, the think befor I was even put down. Everyone was trying to explain I had stopped sweeting and was beet red. It's funny, it seemed all out of sink. Because I kept trying Togo back to work one of the guys stayed with me for a long time. The whole time water running over me. I wasn't sent home, didn't work the rest of the day, got my days pay. I was told that I was unresponsive when talked to when I was in the trailer, that is when action was taken. I wouldn't stop working and get some water.

Countrygirl - LOVE your avatar! Wishing there was something that could be done to support everyone who is hurting right now. We lived in NY when 9/11 happened. Our town lost 30 members. It's just devastating to lose key members of the community such as your area has. The healing is slow and steady and one day, someone laughs and that makes it OK for others to do the same when they are ready. Hugs to you and yours

The link was great! I thought she was telling my story!

Thanks! We had the BEST candlelight vigil tonight - amazing!! Completely packed with our community... So perfectly beautiful, respectful - bikers from all over Arizona showed up just in case we needed them for those crazy Westboro people and they stayed around for over 2 hours... The speakers, the music, the prayers, "Amazing Grace" played on bagpipes, release of 19 purple balloons into the sky... it was so uplifting that it was the first day I haven't cried too much. We knew a couple of the young men... one was my friend's son due to be married in just 3 months. Brendan, the sole survivor was loved on tonight too, as well as all the people from Yarnell who lost their homes. All in all, I was so proud of my town and it's people. Check out facebook for photos, etc. - here's a couple links for those who are interested...

Both Prescott & Wickenburg have been so great to the displaced of Yarnell - the rodeo grounds and ranches have helped by taking in evacuated small and large livestock as well - we all know we'd want to bring our girls with us right?

You know, it seems the breed to die from the heat the most are the Easter Eggers. I'm hoping my four Ameraucana do not fall in to that less-hardy category. They seem to be doing well so far, but they are younger and not nearly as feathered as a grown adult.

On the note of ice blocks and all, my three turkeys are the only smart ones. I've got a box fan running on the back porch and a shallow pan of water in front of it. I'll be darned, the turkeys lay directly in front of the fan and go to sleep. They are the only ones I see standing in or walking through that, too. None of the others care much for either. Instead, they using both wading pools as a drinking fountain. I guess that could mean the chickens aren't as stressed by the heat as much, but they were all panting some. Who knows.
Don't say that "it seems the breed to die from the heat the most are the Easter Eggers". I am already worried enough. Eeeek!!!

My husband had to photograph the memorial service at ERAU with all the congressmen, governor, etc. He came home crying, mostly because he saw Wade's little brother and it was so hard to see him so distraught. All the firefighters that could get away to be there were crying and holding each other - It was just heartbreaking... Too close to home...
Countrygirl74, I can't imagine how hard it was for your husband that day. We always take for granted what these men and women risk for our safety. They said this was the second largest tragedy of lost firefighters compared to those lost on 9/11. Praying for a speedy resolution to this nonsense.
