That is a really different looking egg. I've seen lots of light brown with darker spots but never darker brown with white spots like that. What kind of chicken is that?
Thanks guys!! I think it's a residue on the egg. I'm not sure if it's from her butt or if it's hard water deposits from the misters. She laid her egg in the run area rather than the nesting boxes, so it could be from the misters. But I think it looks pretty neat anyway. I didn't want to wash it until I use it. But I'll be having a fried egg for breakfast tomorrow, WOO!! Oh, and she's a red star!
City farm: When I worked in the ER, we always had airport workers come in during the summer with heat stroke. I can't imagine being out there in the summer.
Countrygirl - LOVE your avatar! Wishing there was something that could be done to support everyone who is hurting right now. We lived in NY when 9/11 happened. Our town lost 30 members. It's just devastating to lose key members of the community such as your area has. The healing is slow and steady and one day, someone laughs and that makes it OK for others to do the same when they are ready. Hugs to you and yours![]()
The link was great! I thought she was telling my story!
Don't say that "it seems the breed to die from the heat the most are the Easter Eggers". I am already worried enough. Eeeek!!!You know, it seems the breed to die from the heat the most are the Easter Eggers. I'm hoping my four Ameraucana do not fall in to that less-hardy category. They seem to be doing well so far, but they are younger and not nearly as feathered as a grown adult.
On the note of ice blocks and all, my three turkeys are the only smart ones. I've got a box fan running on the back porch and a shallow pan of water in front of it. I'll be darned, the turkeys lay directly in front of the fan and go to sleep. They are the only ones I see standing in or walking through that, too. None of the others care much for either. Instead, they using both wading pools as a drinking fountain. I guess that could mean the chickens aren't as stressed by the heat as much, but they were all panting some. Who knows.
OMGosh.... I think she was talking about me!! LOL, that was funny.Anyone need a good laugh today?

Countrygirl74, I can't imagine how hard it was for your husband that day. We always take for granted what these men and women risk for our safety. They said this was the second largest tragedy of lost firefighters compared to those lost on 9/11. Praying for a speedy resolution to this nonsense. My husband had to photograph the memorial service at ERAU with all the congressmen, governor, etc. He came home crying, mostly because he saw Wade's little brother and it was so hard to see him so distraught. All the firefighters that could get away to be there were crying and holding each other - It was just heartbreaking... Too close to home...
