Arizona Chickens

Nice!!! I usually get 2 a day right now but one of my girls didn't lay today....she has a habit of laying in the early afternoon, and I think the heat just didn't agree with her today. I also think one of my Black Australorps is gonna start laying soon, her comb and waddles have went red and she's starting to squat when you pet her.....

OOOH!! Very exciting!! My only one not laying now is Daisy, my bantam cochin barred rock. I really don't have much of an idea of how old she is as she was adopted from a farm and was originally hatched in a university lab. So it'll be a complete surprise whenever she starts laying, especially as she doesn't want anything to do with me so I don't know about petting her and seeing if she'll squat. Hopefully I find it when it happens. Hope you're up to 3 soon though!!

Are your cochins sort of sassy and a little stuck up? Or is it just mine, lol. She hates me. The only time I can pet her is when she's in the roost at night.

I just got word that I have grandchicks!!!!!!

This is what my Splash boy looked like in April before he went to his forever home.

My grandchicks. 1 splash and 2 blue.

He has been named Petey by his new owner. He turned out handsome!

It has been awhile since I have written anything but I have been in now and again to read. I came on today to ask you, Desertmarcy, about what that thing is that is hanging on my turkey and while I was catching up the pages I have missed while away I came to your post about pendulous crop! My poor, sweet BlueBell was showing that. She is 6 this summer and started to have this thing hanging off her neck. When I went to check her over she was skin and bones under her feathers! I had to put her down.

Now one of the meat turkeys has a big sack hanging. She still looks good and she is fat still. Is the meat still ok? I Processed soon if it is.

Hopefully BeeKissed will chime in soon, but from reading what I did, the meat should be perfectly fine. If my understanding is right, they simply starve to death, but the birds' body literally eats itself from the inside trying to survive. I would cull and process them as soon as you confirm this problem in each one. The longer you wait, the less meat you'll have and the more they'll suffer.

I'm sorry you're going through this. :-(
