Arizona Chickens

I've searched BYC and the web and I just can't seem to find any good reviews on leg bands, so I thought I'd ask my AZ brothers and sisters. Does anyone here use them? I want to use them just so I can start telling some of my girls from each other and then to separate the ages. Thanks in advance!

I have been using colored zipties on chicks and young stock to show their mother, with a toe punch for the father. I am using numbered leg bands on older birds. I get small zipties where ever I can find them locally, larger ones and leg bands I buy from Twin City Poultry, have had good customer service from them. http://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/store/

She looks like a Black Australorp to me. I have five of them and they all had their waddles form just like that. I get about four eggs a day from them on average even now during the summer. Big eggs too. If I'm right on the breed you will get eggs from her at about 18 weeks.
She really is a black copper marans. I got her from, well, not really sure they are breeders?? but anyway, a husband/wife operation called Hippie Chicks N Eggs. They got their stock from a breeder in the south, dark-rated eggs..blah, blah, blah (when their history was being told to me, all my brain focused on was, "CHICKS! BABIES! LOOK AT HOW CUTE THEY ARE!!!" She does have dark, feathered legs. She's just...over-melantinized (didn't spell that correctly!)

But, importantly--she looks like she's really a she??? Yes!

SigChef, sorry about the early move. Gotta say, pretty good pictures from a potato! :D What do y'all think? The barred rock is 3 months old this week. There are two barred rocks, but I couldn't catch the 2nd one--looks exactly the same with the comb and wattles a touch smaller. The black copper marans is a couple of weeks older. Cockerels or pullets? The black copper marans has no copper, I know. My daughter is holding her a little wonky--the bird doesn't have sickle feathers in the back. Her neck feathers are rounded, though laced with black (where the copper should be) so they appear pointy, but really aren't. I thought for sure she was a pullet, and then a couple of weeks ago she popped out those little red wattles. She's probably around 14 weeks old? Also, this could answer all of my cock/pullets questions. Do cockerels cluck like the pullets? The two known cocks do not cluck--the RIR is huge, but dude still peeps like a chick. The tiny Polish/silkie mix started to crow this week, and other than that, I think he still peeps. All the others cluck like busy bodies--though the Polish/silkie pullets sound dreadful (but a cute dreadful), kinda like sick ducks.
I am having trouble getting my post to post correctly. For pics of my boy BR at that age click on this link to another BYC thread where my pis are posted. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/643481/sexing-barred-rocks/240#post_11582101

She looks identical to my two Black Australorp girls just a little older than her.

If anyone is looking to add to their flock I have 3 Buffs, 2 Barreds and 1 Silver laced. My landlord called me today to tell me she is selling our house

. The barreds are 23 weeks old and one just started laying, the Buffs are 21 weeks old and one has been laying for two weeks and the Silver laced is 18 weeks old. I had plans of keeping them for another year give or take and sell them off before we moved to Washington, but due to the new events were just moving into an apartment for the remainder of our time here in Arizona. My favorite Buff lays at 10 am on the spot everyday, she has a better personality then my cat and makes me very sad to have to get rid of her. Pics were taken with a potato so you will have to excuse the quality.

I sure would take them. Trouble is getting them for we live so far from you!

I know, she really does without the tell-tale copper. But the place doesn't raise Australorps, so there's been no mix-ups. She does have the feathery legs. I, at some point, would just love her to lay eggs, any color!

Thanks for the link to your photos, By Chicken Lady. So...I'm thinking I can cross 3 supposed cockerels of the list? That's AWESOME!

ArizonaSon, if you're reading--we have black copper marans from the same place--are any of yours all black, or have they developed the normal feathering?

I have at least one cockerel in that group, the rest are all black, like the one you pictured. The cockerel is just starting to color in, around the neck & shoulders, I just actually noticed I had a cockerel a few days ago when his comb and wattles looked suspiciously bigger than they did a week ago!

This is the day that Kent Jr. Crowed.. Little stinker.. We do need to give him away..
His father is a partarage silkie, mom is a buff.. He looks like him mom..
He is friendly, soft & adorable.. P.M. Us if interested..
