WOW that is Awesome! Would be great for my baby chicks. Does the top zip on or just go over the top with elastic? Wondering if it would keep my cats out.
Thanks...I need to get my 2 - 10 week old silkies next to her. She is so tiny next to them.MaMa Hen Chris, Really love that grey girl!
Maybe? Or are you seeing maggots? What do you all do for worms? Chicken poo is gross enough without the little white, moving, worms with the flat heads. I'm at my wits end. I let my chickens out during the day to free range. What can I do as a preventative to these disgusting parasites? I want to know what the more experienced people here do. And what is the life cycle of these, I assume, tapeworms? Any info would be great. Thanks!
Brahmas are WONDERFUL. I have no experience with sussex.Anyone have an experience with speckeled sussex or light brahmas? They just became options from the breeder I'm buying from next weekend. They both sound fun but I was only planning on 8 chickens and now its getting out of hand.

In amongst another thread this morning, there was a reference to composting with chickens. One link led to another, which led me to this article on The Modern Homestead. It's titled Feed Costs: A Paradigm Shift. It was an excellent article and it is even more valid today than it was in 2008, I'm afraid. I'm rethinking some of my backyard and how I can implement this idea even more than I already do.
