Arizona Chickens

It is so true about our pets. Soom propel just do not care, then there is the other side. My sister could afford it so they did every thing they could for their dog. But the day came when they looked into her eyes when the vet said WE NEED DO DO THIS.......... . She was older and suffering, not in pain, but suffering. It was very distressing for her not be able to control her functions, she needed help to walk and eat. Life was very hard for her. My Sister said enough is enough. She is nothing but bones, had a special pad to lay on at that point. :( but now she is at piece, herding cattle to her hearts content, and guarding the children in heaven keeping them safe, separating the boys when they get to ruff, and swimming with the kids. Those are the things she loved the most and made her life joyous. Even when she was so weak, you could see she tried to get up to love them. She was a wonderful nanny dog. Pit bulls, to there last breath try never to show pain and let down the people they love.

We are going through this now with our 13 y.o. collie shepherd mix. She has arthritis. She has one eye left after glaucoma surgery 3 years ago. The vet said it would likely come back in the other eye within 6 - 18 months. So far so good. We have been giving her prescribed drops to minimize the recurrence. When I took her back for her eye exam, they found that she has a mass in her anal sac that they believe is cancerous and they want to do surgery. No thank you. Every time I brought her back for an eye pressure exam, they brought up the surgery again. I have told them 3 times we are not interested in having any more operations on a 13 y.o. dog when they say that form of cancer is very aggressive.

We have been living on borrowed time with her for the past 2.5 years as far as I'm concerned. We enjoy every day we have with her. Two weekends ago, I thought we were going to have to put her down. She woke up and couldn't walk right, she was falling over. She couldn't get up or down the stairs. My husband was carrying her up and down. She wouldn't eat, so our daughter started feeding her cooked food. A relative asked why don't you just take her to the vet. We have already made the family decision that when it's her time, we will find the right person. I was checking around for someone that might do euthanasia at our home. I was helping the dog walk (with a towel wrapped around her mid section to keep her upright) in hopes she wouldn't lose her muscle control. She could walk, just looked like she was drunk and then would fall over. I thought she had a stroke or that the cancer had spread. My husband didn't agree with euthanasia two weeks ago. Said it wasn't her time. Our daughter did some research and came up with some condition basically like vertigo which is common in geriatric dogs. It reportedly comes on spontaneously and goes away over time. Our dog does not whine or whimper. She is back to eating dog food and climbing up and down the stairs on her own. She does have a head tilt that hasn't gone away. I am constantly amazed at the resiliency of this animal. She has brought so much love to our family. I'm thankful I trusted my husband and daughter's intuition because mine was WAY off two weeks ago.

That's why i love my vet. He didn't give me any false hope with my poor dog. Said surgery even in young dogs was only 10 percent successful for this type of thing. Poor guy is hanging in there. No pain but this is horrible. He went from basically just being an old geriatric dog on Monday to skin and bones and not being able to move or get up on his own. He hasa few minutes of lucidity where i feed him and give him water before he is out again. His appointment to be eutheuthanized is monday, but i probably should have had it done yesterday. But on Thursday when i mad ethe appointment i had no idea he would go downhill so fast.

If you're in the tucson area, there's Hailey's Angels, and she'll come to your home to euthanize and take care of your pet's final needs.

In awesome news, my marans is going to make it. Crop is finally normal, she's pooping, and really wants to be with her chicken friends.

:celebrate & :hit Life is both hard and sweet, love is the constant. We can only do our best. Today I found out that someone I know has a dog in his prim with terminal cancer, his dog is, at the moment comfortable, but he has no money to keep him out of pain. So much sadness and pain, we must,at times, remember our love and the love given, and out of love do the right thing. It takes courage to face these times. May God hold you all in his hands. When the time IS right you will all know.

I am so happy to hear that your girl is OK. That is a sweet relief when it is needed most.

Never mind on the silkie.. Does anyone have legbars? If so what color egg do you get? Also what about Favaucana? Saw the breed on Mypetchicken.

From Mypetchicken;
Favaucanas are My Pet Chicken's exclusive new designer breed, a cross between Faverolles and Ameraucanas. They're the Goldendoodles of the chicken world: They have the sweet disposition and beautiful salmon plumage of the Faverolles, along with the lovely colored eggs and extra cold hardiness of the Ameraucanas. These beauties get the best of both worlds! Purebred Faverolles can often get bullied by other breeds in a mixed flock, but by contrast, Favaucanas fare much better in the pecking order, seemingly getting boost of self-confidence from their Ameraucana heritage. They have the excellent laying abilities from their Faverolles halves, too, and their sagey green eggs are just gorgeous! They're wonderful foragers. Plus, Favaucanas mature earlier and inherit the good winter laying capabilities of their Faverolles half. What's not to love?
