Pure Little Miracle passed on about 13:20 today. A good fight, that is still a Miracle. I hope she didn't suffer.

Sorry to hear about that!

I am going to be coming to the valley Sat afternoon and am trying to coordinate some drop off/pick ups. I have about 8-10 EE pullets at POL (I think two are laying now) for sale. $25 each or buy 3 or more for $20 each. All have the same red EE boy as their father with different mothers which were three different EE hens and 3 Welsummer or Wellie/leghorn cross. A couple have single combs (but ginormous beards, go figure) and at least one is laying tan. Others can lay anywhere from blue-green-olive.

If you are interested please PM me. City Farms has already ordered some so I know I"ll be going there, perhaps others would just like to meet up there if that is OK with her.

Oh yea, you can see pics of them on my blog in my sig line

Yes, on the bearded.. 3 for me.. And yes of course if anyone would like to pop on over for pick up & tea..
I don't get home till 5:00.. So I might need to have you drop them off then no tea.. Unless you can come
by then for tea & dinner.?

I am actually pleased that I got so many from my second batch of Marans eggs. I did let the rest over night, that may be why out of 16 eggs 13 developed to about day 17. I did open up all the eggs, 1 had a bad smell, the yoke had devolved in I contained fluid form, feathers seemed on the short or thin side. 4 hatch all by them selves,,, infact in a very short time from what I read about how long it can take from peeping & rocking to what's for dinner. Actually 3 were part zipped, 1 I was piety sure was dead, I thought Miracale was dead untill I made her pilot hole large enough and was able to touch her egg tooth. I think I did learn on the 3 rd chick that was still alive and had a drying membrane. With Marical I carefully removed the shell then tried to hydrate the membrane wrapping it in wet paper towel. Then slowly lefting pieces of the membrane off. This is were I whent all so wrong. As soon as Marical fealt freedom she started to kick and squrm as to get free of the egg. She bleed from the umbilical cord. After she was gone, I found it looked like it was pulled partly off with a black blood clot close to her body. The mambrain was stuck to her and it.

With the last rescue I removed enough shell to get a washed and very clean wet feather under the shell and the mambrain. I usen very warm water, I remembered what Flower told me about water tempiture and chickens. I more or less filled the shell with water 1 drop at a time. I was extra careful removing as small as Possable pices of shell, re-wetting anf keeping the membrane as hydrated as Possable. Also when I could tell she was no longer stuck and I was satisfied that all the mambrain was hydrated, I returned her to the incubator for her to kick free on her own.

I am convinced it was tarring from the dryed membrane. The next time I am keeping an assortment of feathers for just that, a feather water paint brush. Do not remove any shell untill you know the membrane is hydrated. There is no way you can keep the natural instinkes from tacking over.

Angle's Abdominal bulge is smaller, I will look for splayed legs. I am giving new culture of fermented food, laced with electrolights, probiotics & vitamins and a teaspone of Briges apple cider vinager. I have also give hard boiled egg mashed.

I have 1 chick that is a little hyper active, wing action when she run, I have not seen her walk yet. I have seen her stop, lay down for 5 minute nap, then off to walk over her brothers an sisters. If she/he is a pullet, who ever gets her has hours of Intertainment a head of them. I am hoping she will mellow out a little thu.
