If you want something really awe-inspiring, forget the stained concrete! You've gotta go with a penny floor...
But who can afford it? Reminds me of the story about the chessboard and grains of rice...
estimated coast $2.56 per sq ft., or between $256.00-$260.00 for a 10'x10' area. I do not know how much the Polymer would be. Flooring from 99¢ to $3.50 is average low and high. Labor is the big thing. Get your penny jar out. $1.50 equals 1 #. $256.00 equals 170# of penny's. On average up to $2.00 of penny's go into penny jar a week for a family (2 to 4) if they never spent a Penny. (1.3#/wk = 67# per year). In 3.88 years you will have the penny's IF the value of rage penny keeps at above 2% for inflation, your true price of your floor will go down. :/ In other words a $256.00 flooring material in 2010 would be over $275.00 to day, but a penny floor is still the same...... On the other hand if in 1947 I had a copper penny floor using $256.00 in penny's, it would have been the same as $2,733.85 in purchasing power in 2013.did everyone get that? I've confused my self.... It is doable, in 2 - 3 or 4 years even more doable and cheaper. If you are filling a change jar, convert the heckles and dimes into penny's. you will never miss it. In 1947 you would have missed it. ($256.00 in 2003 had the same buying power as $324.92 in 2013) Fly in the ointment.... Using debit cards... No penny's. I know, too much time on my hands. :gig

Thank you so very much. I had been trying to fix that problem, when Flower came down gave me help. But you are prolly right on the money. It started when she was about 5-6 months old. She never laid an egg. That would account for the lower intestines not quite right. Not all nastily like the one processed at the party, but not right ether, they were soft, too soft.

I wish non of my girls would suffer for my ignorance. Being able to say not again is something. I seem to now remembering reading something...... My problem is I'm a hands on learner. I could reed all the books, but I need to be able to remember. I need to put to gather my own reference book, the computer is great but I do not know the words I need to do a good search.

I love the penny floor. Regardless of it's value now or in the future, it is quite beautiful. But on to a different topic: I FINALLY have my website up! YEAH!

Take a look if you have a chance: www.featheredreptilesfarm.weebly.com

Ya have to remember to type in the dot weebly before the dot com...
Let me know if you see any glitches.
I had fun putting it together. Now if I could just figure out how to make it appear on searches, all will be good.
I still want to make a page for poultry-relevant recipes

Im trying to avoid buying from a hatchery. I'm looking for black australorps. Does anyone sell this breed or know of a breeder here in AZ. I searched the forum found one breeder near Tucson, clicked their facebook and they haven't been on in almost two years... I messaged them any way but I'm not expecting a reply. They also had a link to BYC with their member name... I searched and they no longer exist on BYC. Can anyone help or give me a page number in this thread to start from? 1290 pages is a lot of reading.

I have some Black Austalorps on order from Hatchbawks in Phoenix. Family run, very nice folks! I'm picking them up Oct 6!!!

Desertmarcy, the website looks great ffom my phone! I suggest putting up some dark egg photos for the black copper marans, since that's why mostnpeople want marans. Congrats!

Good idea. I'm glad it looks good from your phone. I don't have an Internet phone, so no way for me to test that. Thanks!

I am not sure what is up with this person on Craigslist but sound like you have had a great experience already. I have one BA, Sophie, who is a very sweet gal. I hope you enjoy yours and can't wait to see photos.

I lost my first chicken today. I promised myself I wouldn't get attached. But each of the kids picked out a chicken and I chose one too and raised it from a little puff ball. My Buff Orpington, Butterball died today. We can't figure out what happened. It wasn't too hot today. They had fresh food and water as always and she was fine last night when I locked them up. I went out this evening to give them some dinner leftovers and she was laying inside the coop dead. She was only about 16 weeks old and the friendliest of our 6. Do chickens normally drop dead for no apparent reason? Her crop wasn't enlarged and she had been eating and acting normal? We wonder if something got into the run, but there was no blood or puncture marks. just several feathers  around the run.

Oh man that is weird.. Did you open up & find anything ?
Condolence from our family.

I had started soaking her rump in warn/hot water, putting Bag Balm on the area, pluse adding Briggs Apple Cider vinegar with Mother to their water and extra to their fermented feed before giving it to them, I have been giving plain yogurt as well. She is the only one that had the problem, but they all benifeted from the addition to their diet.

Hi LKD! Lovely to get to meet you in person last night! I am thinking of something, adult chickens do not normally get pasty butt. That is something mostly seen in young chicks that have been stressed, like getting too cold, having a long rough hatch or going too long without food or water.

If you have an adult hen with a pasty butt and especially if there is an odor I would suspect a yeast infection AKA gleet. Some have used over the counter products for feminine yeast infections and some have used NuStock to cure the gleet. Some cases clear up easily and some are more entrenched and take a longer period of treatment to get cleared up. Just a thought.

Like when you share this kind of info..
